i am needing a guard for my 4ooex and i was just going to buy a stock one but someone was telling me about a case saver but i cant figure out how it works. by the looks of it, it dont look too wide and i dont really see how it would help. i was wondering if anyone had a pic of one on there 400 so i could see how it worked. thanks

I don't know how to put up a link, but go to the '13 tooth' thread on here, and near the end, mooseracer has put up a pic of a front sprocket that has a case saver around it. Ebay has em cheap!

ok thanks man, i dont really see how it would be better than the stock one though. it just dont look like there is much protection.

i'm going to try and make my own

They don't have to be that big to protect. I've had two chains break while riding, and I'm still using the same case saver(Graydon). Stock or not.....Ebay.

I've never had a chain break but I've had it come off. There was a few marks on the case saver and that was it. I'm glad I had it on there and wouldn't run w/o one.

I am going to try and make my own and once I get it down I can start my business like i have been planning. I will be making case savers, air scoops, intakeboot plugs, airbox lids, and i am trying for LED tail lights. Still finishing plans and nothing has been made yet. I will tell you this they will be like no other company. Completely different than anyone has made yet.

what if every product you have on your quad, those comapnies said they same? i'm sure they all didnt say i am going to try and copy this guy and make the same design. Look at the tinner air scoops. simple design, its different, it sold! If you can break a material that is used for bullet proof things you are good. If you can break them i'll refund you or something. I have tested the material out using a 8lb stone hammer and it would not crack or chip. I put it in a vise and tried to break it i couldnt break it at all. The only thing I have found to ruin it was an open flame being held on it. so w/e man think what you want i'll pursue my career and you trying to put me down isnt stopping me its just making me going to try and prove you wrong

so when my chain comes off? and cracks this "case saver" in 2 you will replace it?

is this going to be machined outta aluminum? steel?

08-17-2008, 09:50 PM
i will work out some kind of warranty. If your chain is about the same speed as a bullet than yes you could crack it. thats why i asked for a chains speed like 5th gear wound out or something. idk how i could figure out a chains speed but i know this will withstand it as for material its all secret until i have tested them myself and i can produce them to sell. I wouldnt put something on my quad that would harm it or fail

The case saver doesn't have to be all that strong. All it has to do is ride close to the chain to keep it from wadding up in the event of a break or jump of the chain. If it doesn't wad up in front of the sprocket then it can't break the case, it'll just pass through.

i bought my 400ex with a cracked case cheap. the chain didnt break on mine... it got a kink in it and the kink came around and busted the housing where the shift rod shaft comes out of the case. i wonder if you could make a case saver that protects this area too?

08-18-2008, 09:11 PM
i was planning on trying to have it go around the shift lever shaft aswell but we will see how that goes. I'm going to make some mock ups tomorrow since i have off

08-18-2008, 09:26 PM
let me know when you get some made, if they look strong and half way decent ill get one off of you, thats if its a good price.

08-18-2008, 09:32 PM
they should be very reasonably priced. i wont know a price until i get my materials and figue out how many i can make. the 1st one i am making is going to be cut by a saw that can do edges and such. Then I will most likely mill them using a CNC machine so they will all be exact

i no its kind of late but Foxhondarider i will buy your stuff for sure! just tell me when you got somthing ready and give me a paypal and il pay ya! and stickers are no big deal to me i dont put anything on my quad as of stickers i like pulling up to cocky people who assume my quad is stock and then blowing past them and they cant figure it out! even though a case saver wont help much with that but still i need one i got nothing right now.

also known as 1/4" ;) . anyway, the stock case saver kinda fits in between the links, so it probably maintains a constant radius and is about a millimeter or two from the center of the chain.
