Which quad are you making tie rods for? If you can take one into a local hardware store find the correct size nut and you just need that size and thread pitch. Once you find that out it'll be much easier. If you give me the size I can try to find one for you, work at Ace Hardware.;)

I think the 300ex tie rods are 12mm 1.75 pitch. I'll check for you tomorrow on the tap and die.

I have one but it is 10x1.25 LH that I used for some mini quad tie rods.I had a tough time finding a LH one but found a company that made me one.I will try to get you the company's name and some contact info today.

Just bet someone to thread it on a lathe for you, it will be alot easier then trying to turn a die over it .. and the threads will be alot nicer.

Yes, dies are expensive and usually do a poor job. Get your local machine shop to do it on a lathe or your local high schol probably has a machine shop class that needs something to do. It'll be free that way. I own a machine shop so I deal with this everyday. If you still must do it with a die, try J & L industrial.

^ You have more faith in your local high school machine shop class than I do.

it will take any compotent machinist like 10 minutes to do on a lathe.

True. My comment comes more from frustration with the administration side rather than the teachers and students. The state is making it tough on students to take machine shop classes and they threaten to pull the programs if there isn't enough students. It's ridiculous. I work co-op students every year and they just don't know what they did even 5yrs ago and it's a direct result of the way the state is goofing things up.
