ok guys been my dream to own a 250r since i was little rideing on the back of my neighbors. well found a deal on a stock one and love it already!

i own al always ride honda 2 stroke bikes
125 250 500s

this was the olny quad i would buy and got it.

i am working with a 86 250 r all stock other then fmf pipe and tires
last owner said he owned it for 3 to 4 years and never did a topend, on the other hand it has good compression and rides mint.

but i do want to do a top end rebuild over the winter.

now i been lookin on ebay for parts and dont really feel good about puttin used parts on my quad.

ok to the point a few qustions i need help with.

is it ok to put used parts for the motor?

i want to do a big boar kit wile doing the topend rebuild is it safe to get used parts for this?

if not where is there a good deal to buy new ones?

also any other tricks to wake up my stocker for the time being?

thanks for all the in put

My bike is full of used parts, it just depends on what it is. My two cents are: if you want to go big bore, buying a used cylinder is ok. Just have it bored/honed and put a new piston and rings in. Also if you buy a used top-end, figure out what size piston is in it now, so that way you can find how many bores are left. Some sleeves go 4 overbores larger before you have to replace the sleeve.

A good place to find parts is here on this forum, or the For sale forum here on exriders. I have bought parts from a few members here with no problems, and its nice buying parts from a fellow 250r owner who know what they are talking about. Ebay is fine as long as you know what your buying. I have found great deals on there because some sellers have no idea what the heck they are talking about when they list something.

There are plenty of people on this fourm who have started off just like you. Ask questions, and use the Search box to look through old threads. You could probably answer some of your questions that way. There is a plethora of info here, and congradulations on your R, welcome to the club!!

There's a lot of used stuff I wouldn't put in a motor. If you do find a big bore, you just need to find out how many bores are left.

Wake it up, different pipe, bigger carb, reed cage.

Hey, you're right over the border from me!

almost anything is better than the stocker.Lrd pipes always seem to get hammered as far as performance in relation ESr or ct etc but i love mine, even if it sits at the bottom of the list for hp production,it works for me especially when im wheelying up those cliffs in 3rd:D If you plan on doing a big bore then try and find a cylinder thats already almost maxed out,you dont want to go the max on a std bore cylinder if you dont have to.As far as parts look around you can find just about anything.Just dont pay too much;)

ahh i like the classic hurricane!

just a quick and cheap mod is to switch to a cr 250 head gasket for more compression or if you got the stock steel 3 piece gasket you can take out the 2 outer (thin pieces).

If you were down my way i would show you some of my classic hondas.:D

If you use the higher comp cr head gasket, make sure its from the 89 to 91 model. That bike looks pretty solid, not bad for a 20yr old machine.congrats on your find:)
