i haven't read all 21 pages, but can see in the pics posted on the first few that u used an 05 carb, anyone try the 06 or newer carb?? i've got an 06 400 w/ very little motor work, 11.5 comp piston stock bore, stage 2 cam, and some head porting, the only problem i have w/ this machine, is that i'm used to running a fast revving 450, does adding this help in that way?

I dont know if anyone is running it but the 06 and newer are fcr flatslid carbs. If you can get it to bolt up it should really help out. Also a good aftermarket exhaust will really wake it up too. The stock exhaust is holding that piston and cam back.

i've got an hmf full system, and twin air intake cage set-up. was told to scrap the hmf and buy a sparks pipe by laz at gt thunder, but thats a huge loss to take haha

If I already had an HMF full system I wouldnt bother switching to a Curtis Sparks full system. The Sparks is better no doubt but the HMF is so close unless you had the money to just throw away for a little more power idk I wouldnt do it. The only thing I can see that would be worth the change is if you had a monster 400ex like a crazy 440 or 460 where you would need the Sparks X6 big core.
