Other than going with something outragous like titanium or something, does anyone make a swing arm that is lighter than stock? I was told the Houser or even a custom one I priced out was heavier than stock. I was hoping to shave weight, not add it.

Any ideas?

well i think the 400s have aluminum swingarms, and aftermarkets are chromoly, so almost every aftermarket is going to be heavier. Its just a fact of life. Just go aftermarket and pick up an extra 2 lbs. If MX guys do it, then it must not effect it that much

I have a chromoly one for my 400. Its 1" longer than stock. And I noticed absolutely no weight difference flying it through the air. Mine is a Herrmann. Mo;)

I remember in a past issue of ATV sport they built a DS and put a negitive 1 chromoly one. It weighed 11lbs less then the stock one.

Any brand names here? Chromoly weighs more than aluminum, so it would be difficult to make it weight less than a stock swing arm. I'd like to find out though.

really, u dont want a light rear end on ANY quad, or the back end can and will shoot up in the air higher than the front, which is deff not good, u want the setup 45/55 % weight, where the front is slightly lighter

Nope Rico gained weight. His Houser swingarm weighed in at 15lbs.

Any aftermarket swingarm is going to be heavier then a stock 400 swingarm unless it's some crazy custom made job; the stock arm is cast aluminum. But if you do some other mods you'll still loose more weight overall so it's not really a big deal.
