2008 AMA PRO ATV Motocross Nationals #11 - Loretta Lynn's - Live Race Coverage

Hurricane Mills, TN (8/9/2008) - Chad Wienen has had rotten luck this season. The rider of the No. 44 Team Rockstar/ MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper Suzuki) suffered two shoulder injuries in successive weeks and was even sidelined for a race. That all changed Saturday at ATV Dirt Days as the Loretta Lynn Ranch as Wienen netted the top spot in qualifying for tomorrow's finals. The race is the season finale for the ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA National Championship Presented by Parts Unlimited. Wienen was nearly two full seconds ahead of his teammate Dustin Wimmer (No. 191 Team MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper Suzuki). Pat Brown (No. 199 Factory Yamaha) was third quick, ahead of Doug Gust (No. 55 Team Rockstar/ MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper Suzuki), and Josh Creamer (No. 9 Team Monster Energy/Kawasaki).

"This feels really good," said Wienen. "I spent the last few weeks training in the heat and the bike is working great. I won here last year, and the reason I won was consistency. I hope stay consistent tomorrow and win the race.

"This has been just a difficult season," added Wienen. "I came out swinging at the beginning of the year, then I was hit with those two shoulder injuries. That was tough to deal with, but I'm glad to be fully recovered now. A win here would give me great personal joy, but, more importantly, it would be great to give back to my fans. They've stuck with me this season and they've been waiting a long time for a win."

Jasmin Plante (No. 91 Ultimate Yamaha/Toyota Yamaha), Jason Dunkelberger (No. 19 East Coast ATV), Russ Shumaker (No. 68 Team Monster Energy Kawasaki) and Rocco Arno, Jr. (No. 101 Privateer) qualified for the final through the Last Chance Qualifier. Hunter Miller, Brian Ace, Trent Kandel, and Rich Stambach didn't qualify.

ATV Dirt Days continues tonight with a live concert by Krista Marie. The event concludes tomorrow with Pro finals, as well as a full compliment of Pro-Am, Amateur, Youth and Women's Racing.

gibson had bike troubles in first moto and missed the lcq watching the pro race so he didnt get to run the 2nd moto,brown won but denoble reeled him in,but brown got ooverall and denoble 2nd

wienen hasnt won as many as byrd just yet,but chad was def on the gas today

Gibson had already crashed on Saturday too. Had bike problems, but he was hurting anyways. Was tripling into the 10 commandments and cased it. Was the only person to try all weekend.

Lawson and Dunk got tangled up really bad in the 2nd corner of the 2nd moto. I was on the other side of the track and couldn't really see them, but one of their mechanics had to take a tire off just to get them apart.

Byrd isnt even close to being a privateer. He is backed by american honda. He has just as many quads as the factory guys. Rocco, Dunk, Downen, & any other Honda pro are Privateer. Byrd also has unlimited parts, Funds probabaly not as much, but he is By far from being a Privateer. What Chad said was Flippin Funny, that is what it was meant to be. You dont think Dasa is takin care off him. Both excellent riders, was just Chads day.

And you sir took the words out of my mouth. I gurantee Byrd has just as many "one-off" parts as suzuki. The only major thing I know of Suzuki has that is one-off is the computer on the quads. I'm sure there are other little wing-dings but nothing that makes a HUGE difference.

when villapoto or stewart make block passes 95% of the time they are retaliated against witihin a lap or two, joe on the other hand makes sure that if he sticks somebody that he sticks them into the dirt, hay bale, tree, or anything else he can find that will stop them from moving.

all you people who are acting like a bunch of dicks and know it alls are the idiots. frito has been around this industry for more years than prolly all you cry babies combined. he was just stating in the beginning that joe is as of now the record holder for most consecutive wins at one race. ( which just so happens to be the most prestigious and well known race of the season.) when some one beats mcgrath out of his total wins in supercross than they can take his title of the king of supercross. carmicheal couldnt even take that from him. as of right now until some one can step up to the plate and put 5 pro wins in the bag and 4 of them in a row he will keep the honor of calling it the byrds nest. thats all frito was trying to say. by the way joe has honda support not full factory ride. not saying he doesnt have a good deal. but he has alot of stress on him that suzuki does not have. joe wins becouse he deserves it not becouse he cheats. all you guys who gripe and complain about him and set and bash frito like that why dont you call joe up and ask to go spend a week with him and you do what he does and then come back and say he wins only becouse he cheats. i bet most of you couldnt last a half day. he does not have one off valves either.

Joe has ONE off valves and factory engine parts, I am in the industry, i travel the nationals, and I know people.. Justin bush who is good friends with joe was running his valves in his 05 hondas earlier this year, they are one off factory racing spec valves.. You do not know what you are talking about, so dont try to act like it..

Joe is a nice guy off the track, he walks around during the weekend of a national probally more than any other pro, and never hesistates to talk to you.. I will say I am not a byrd fan because of the way he rides. Like him or not the guy rolls and is constantly in the top 5 each and every weekend.

Valves: When Heather broke a valve, I asked Dasa Dan about it. He said " we been using these valves right along, must be a fluke". I'm sure they are not stock valves (like anyone but 2 ppl care).

glad to see that everyone is still playing so nicely on these crazy forums. I don't like to get on here and get involved but you guys are getting a little carried away... I know Chris Fristoe very well and he is far from stupid especially when it comes to ATV riding and racing of any form.. And I know for a fact how hard Joe works!!!! All of the pro guys train harder then any of you will ever know.. Ive never trained with Chad but I have trained with Joe for 11 years and I know all the hard work and dedication that he puts in 24/7..so believe me when I tell you that Joe could hand with anyones training regimen...so please don't talk crap about something that you know nothing about. You people need to give credit where credit is due.. as far as lorettas goes.. when Joe brake checked chad after the whoops it was because chad leaned on him pretty good in the whoops!!!! Joe is one of the safest riders that I know but unlike some of the other guys Joe is not intimidated by anyone especially just because they have millions of dollars backing there program. Take what I have to say anyway that you like but i have been in this sport for 25 years and I know what it takes to be a champion...some people have it but unforunately most do not. The Pro class is an entirely different breed of athletes! all of the guys are super fast but there are those ELITE few that just have what it takes. God bless all of you that throw your leg over a quad each and every week and wish you all the best and safety in the off season.. and for those of you that have nothing better to do then to bash riders for there god given talent..I think your just jealous because you are unable to do what they do.. Don't be jealous just be proud that we have accomplished people like Joe and Doug and so many others that have helped progress our wonderful sport..

I don't go by he said she said bull crap. I am a very good friend to joe and I am a very good friend to his mechanic. I have helped work on his bikes and as a matter of fact I own one myself. I go to his house atleast once a week. I know what he has. It looks to me like you guys are the stupid outsiders lookin in. People only believe what they want to. So in this case you choose to believe in a lie. His valves are not one off valves. They are very common. You don't have to believe you prolly won't but think of me when you find out the truth for your self and you have that deer in a headlight look.
