View Full Version : Wiring? TORS? No spark

Hello everyone. I finally got everything ready to start up my Banshee but I haven't got any spark. I thought it may be the TORS but I'm pretty sure that the TORS won't stop you from getting spark. I know how to remove it and will try it tomorrow but is this the proper process? "Disconnect the TORS at the carbs, cut the wires going into your throttle, disconnect the wires to the parking brake/clutch, and disconnect the black brain under the left side of your bike under the gas tank." I already have the TORS eliminated carbs and all that.

My next problem to check is with the key switch. For some reason they removed it. The only unplugged wires I can find around that area is a Red and Black wired plug in. So what I did was try and cut them and wire the red and black wire together. That didn’t help. Is that correct? The only other thing I can find unplugged is the tail light. I looked in my manual but it’s the factory one for like 1988 or something and mine is a 03, so I don’t know if the stuff is the same. The plug in that is red and black is only a two connection plug but in my manual it says it’s supposed to be a four connection plug, I think at least.

I was also wondering what the gap should be between the magneto and the coil where the spark jumps. It seems as though the gap is a little excessive to me but I'm not sure.

I forgot something else. I have a hose that connects to a T junction. The look like breather hoses. They came unplugged from the bike and can't figure out where everything goes. One of the ends I have plugged into the one that comes out of the water pump housing. The other end goes up under the radiator and ends. The other connection I have no idea where it goes or comes from. I can't find anything that looks as though it would plug in. I know its no the radiator hose that comes from the top of the head because I found that. So thats not what I'm talking about. Does anyone have any ideas where these hoses go?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Hope this can help you a little bit.

Also, did you check your stator? They are notorious for going bad on banshee's. The TORS will allow spark, and will allow it to run, but it won't let you rev it up. Thats IF the TORS are bad, if they are good it doesnt affect it at all.

Well just to let everyone know I figured out all of my problems. I disconnected the TORS and wired the red and black wires together and capped them up well. Still no spark. So then I took the magneto cover off and sanded the flywheel and the pickup coil (I think that’s what they are called, the parts that the spark is generated from) and put the cover back on and now I have a great fat blue spark. I put some gas, oil, and antifreeze in it and it started up after some kicking. It seems to run pretty good. I completed two heat cycles for the break in and then fouled the plugs so I stopped for the day because it was getting dark.

I have one last thing though. I need to know where the hose goes that comes out of the water pump cover. I'm not talking about the hose with radiator fluid in it but the little one. Anyone want to chime in with some help? I'd appreciate it.

Heres another one. In this pic I have the R and the Banshee together. I must say that I think I like the Banshee better.

Grand total for the build including buying the bike was $1086.19. The bike is totaly complete except for the key switch. It runs really good to. The only problem I have now is with the carbs. When I turn the gas on it runs out of the overflow on the bowl. It pours out of the right carb. I adjusted the floats but it still leaks. Is there any other reason they could be leaking other than the floats? Thanks and have a good one.

Idk, sometimes the floats actually stick. Happened to me a few times.. When it starts to do that, hit the carb with a screwdriver or something hard.

And once you ad your first mod, you'll become addicted just like the rest of us in the banshee cult. haha.

Im gonna break mine in stock, then do the pipes, head, etc. My cylinders are at passion as I speak. I cant wait to get it together!

Head over to bansheehq.com lots of cool people over there and tons of helpful information. Really cool forum.

Thanks for the info hondamaster. I actually just signed up over there. I'll look out for you.

I checked to make sure the floats weren't stuck by hitting the bowl and taking off the carb. While I was taking it off I could hear the floats moving. I adjusted them to and still have leaks.
