Poor Fuel mileage

I have a 2001 Kodiak 400 4x4 that is getting lousy fuel mileage. Air filter clean, no running problems at all. No power problems either. Any help would be appreciated.

If its running fine then that almost strikes out any problems that there may be, but you might wanna make sure yur bike isn't running to rich and maybe clean the carb out, the only other problem i could think of is check all your fuel lines to make sure there isn't a leak, kinda doubt it though

Thanks for the tip. So far I have ruled out everything but the carburetor. Will check that next.

Just wondering... favorite past time of a lot of UTE riders I know. You lose a lot of fuel through the overflow when you wheelie.

If not you may have a stuck float or a leaky float valve which will cause the fuel to overflow.. but generally that will cause some sluggishness due to an overly high fuel level (psuedo-rich).

Actually no wheelies. Nice easy 6 hr ride. Sightseeing. only went 33 miles. Used 3 gallons of fuel ! Other riders all had same displacement quads..... they only used about 1/2 -2/3 gallon of fuel. Should of taken my diesel truck, it gets 17 mpg !!

that isnt very good since my 416ex gets 35-40 mpg when I ride it good. Is it 4x4 all the time? That effects it alot. my buddy has a 450es and gets about 15-20 but it is 4x4 all the time. my moms rancher and my dads rincon both get over 40 per. i rode a outlander efi 650 and got 25 last weekend in 2x4. can you shift it? the hondas rev alot lower than cvts so they much better milage. every polaris i have rode with gets about 10-15 miles per. steve
