I must be missing something in those pics, I don't really see any damage, I see the change is bunched up really good though.

pay closer attention to the crack in the case that starts at the lower rear engine mount. there is another like it on the other side of the mount. :eek2:

yup thats my quad...... the chain didnt fail. it jumped while running a long stretch pinned in third gear. i'm just another victom of the creek beds oddly enough the case saver sustained -O- damage. if only it hadnt detoured between the swinger and sprocket lol :grr:

Dam man hate to see that. That happened to me about a month ago except the chain broke my whole clutch arm piece in the case.

Do you have all motor mounts in use and with the right size bolts to prevent any play?

every mount is used and all bolts are of proper size.

over the years i've only seen this happen when a 13th sprocket is used. never have i had the chain go between with a 14th or higher. coincidently, i was trying a newer/larger dia. tire and desided to use a 13.

The 13 info is good to know. I use a 13 on a few occasions, but I think I will get a 3 tooth bigger for the back now to use when I need to. The only times I have thrown a chain has been in the creek also. Just from some driveway testing, a rock between the lower chain and the skid plate will roll the chain off the rear sprocket.

since you asked, i never seen that happen from a chain but i did tear mine off my 350rx.

just from torque, and someone cut the mount down to fit another frame.

Do you run an extended swingarm? Do you have a chainguide near the rear sprocket? I didn't have a chainguide at first and thats how my chain came off, I was even running a 14T with a case saver...just a thought.

i do have a custom rear chain guide and it helps a great deal. i occasionally throw the chain when running the usual 14th but, it feeds continuous. with no problems. i think i shall tale this opportune to fab something that'll prevent this in the future.

Develop a roller system that is keeps spring loaded pressure on the chain at all times. I'll buy one

i've actually considered a roller tensioner. they are used on the drag banshees with the extended swing arms.

That cracks in a bad place & if your intending on welding it, brace the case by mounting the half to something solid.
Then run someting through the output shaft hole to hold that section in place because the welding will push & then pull after it cools & will distort the case in that area. V that crack so you can get all the welding you can into the crack area & then just clean it up on the inside.

Now, lets see a pic of that chain guide mounted on the swingarm.

Did you scuff up the back of those cases like that, or was it from the swingarm rubbing.
Ol swingarm bearings get loose & will crack the back of the cases right in the middle everytime.
Ol chain did a number on those.

i was wondering when someone would make mention of that neil........... it's actually not from the swingarm rubbing(i'm a stickler when it comes to stuff like that. believe it or not its from 12 years of creek riding. theres been a dump truck load of sand and grit been trown around by those rear tires. i've checked the thickness there from time to time(on each refresh) and its still plenty thick. looks worse than it is. ;)

Yep! That area is prone to gathering trail mix and everything else you can think of!
