I go here to ride almost every weekend. It is like sand dunes almost but not so much like a desert. There is trails, mud, everything you could wish for at a riding place. and when it rains there, there is a lot of mud and water. i have a blast!!!!!! It is located at: http://www.mostateparks.com/stjoe.htm

Good place to trail ride if you break away from the "main trails". I don`t like the chat sand though, very hard on equipment, have blown up a couple bikes there. fun winter riding when it is too muddy everywhere else, you can almost always ride at st. joe.

I say thumbs up!

The EPA and the anti-off-roaders are trying VERY HARD to shut this place down. it has been shaned from like 3000 to 800 acres and is once again in the news, they want the chat covered up and not rode on....hopefully it sticks around.

* Check you air filters, a little of that chat sand gets past and you are rebuilding!

I usually go during the weekday since Im off. Not that many riders there(St.Joe). So you can really ride hard without constantly looking over your shoulder for other riders.

Ye pretty quite on the weekends, only spot I'm careful of is when you first enter off to the right where it goes around the weeds, someone got killed right there from a head on wreck, I usually slow down there now.

Anyone interested in riding St Joe Thurs or Friday this week?

I have the rest of the week off, my normal riding partner hasn't fixed his bike and I don't like to ride alone.

Slightly modded 300ex but I can keep up pretty good. ;)

PM or email me if you are gonna be around.

I love the OXC races, the only problem is they are all on the other side of Mo from me. Last year we made it to Mt View and reed springs. I just really miss the race at Park Hills.

My son and I drive out on occasion and run with yall. I'm usually hanging out with Kevin Kufalh. I really hope those TBA races will be on our side of the state.

nah..my kid rides a 300ex.

I was at Mt View but my son was sick and didn't make it.

The web page for midsouth is www.msws.org They havn't posted the new schedule yet but the first race should be Oct. 5th. It's usually in Greenville, Ky but sometimes they mix it up. We have about 3 races each year in western Ky. One place is about 30 minutes from Paducah.

If you fill like driving a few more hours south on labor day we will be at Turkey Bay in LBL.

Crazy just like any other Saturday or Sunday. Im imagine youll have to park in the overflow(tailing) section if not early. You best call now to see if any sites are open. Im still debating if I want to take my son or not.

HmF300ex
08-27-2008, 04:54 PM
Ye, when we go we take the RV, we have to reserve a hook up plenty early there full almost every weekend, but you should be able to get a camping site, call up around now and reserve one. It's plenty safe to take a smaller child as long as they pay attention to whats in front of em and stay outta the racing areas, but if you go towards either side their almost always deserted and plenty of sand to play in

cmskms
08-27-2008, 04:58 PM
yea if i go i will be bringing my son. I'm still debating between st. joe's and Williams hill pass OHV park down in Harrisburg, il. i was on their website and it looks pretty good, and there having some big ride festival down there or something

jetta75
08-27-2008, 05:24 PM
We have had to park in over flow a couple times and it still isn't all that crowded. Heck early this year we had to park past the overflow in the sand with just one tuck and a 4x8 trailer. If they listen and follow you its not any diff. than any other time. I lead unless we stop at a open spot. Timmy my son already knows so I have to bring him. With 3 adults it won't be a big deal if he listens to you or follows you. My son will get board if no other kids go anyway. Asked my dad to bring my 10 sister on her 80 also.
Before If we get enough adults/kids in the big open spots the adults can take turns playing and watching the kids play.
What time are you wanting to be there?

cmskms don't know if you'll be able to get a cap site. I think it may be first come first serve.

cmskms
08-27-2008, 05:32 PM
just called st. joes. they have some spots open still. if we go we'll definately want to meet up with all of ya. My son would like that, he hasn't gotten to ride with kids his own age yet.

My brother just said something yesterday about riding there on Sunday. We are going to talk to 2-3 buddies this(Wed) evening.

cmskms
09-10-2008, 07:03 AM
We could do Sunday, we would just have to get there early to get our riding in. Cause we would have to leave by 3 or 4. Saturday would be better but we could swing either one

So far we are still going. Even if it rains. If its hard like it shows we may not. Myself and 2 buddies don't care. My brother who is driving doesn't want to go if its raining hard. It looks like it will stop around 1-2PM so it may not work for you Tim, but I will keep you updated this evening and in morning. Still looks like 5 of us thought if we make it.

Buddies and I didn't make it. Neither did airmobile. My brother and I went somewhere local for about 2-3 hours. Buddies wimped out. I don't think it would have been all that bad. They didn't get as many inches down there.

jetta75
10-07-2008, 01:50 PM
Don't think we will be able to make it to St. Joe. My son and I made it down there and met airmobile101 and his son for a ride and it was fun. Didn't get to ride much since we got there late and both my son and I were sick. It didn't bother me any, but I could tell he wasn't feelin good since he even considered not going in morn. which isn't like him at all. Usually counts the days down for me and asks all the time when is the next time. I did go the weekend after with some buddies for the day. It probably won't be till the end of this month before we make it down there.

airmobile101
10-08-2008, 05:57 AM

11-05-2008, 09:53 PM
yeah 4 years ago my 80 had enough power when i was a noob at atving.
but i was 13 haha.
but i think im goin with the polaris predator 500 that a guy i know is selling just because he has so much extra's on it like the jet kit and all. all i would need to buy is a skid plate and that runs at 135 or so/.

it was really good.
cool at night, so the fire felt great and you used the whole sleeping bag to sleep in.
the sand was just damp enough to keep the dust clouds down and the trails were tacky in the right spots..
if you had a utility, the holes were deep and the water was fairly fresh.(meaning they lacked that lovely "dead everything" smell)

something bad mustve happened, a helicopter came in around 8pm saturday.. never found out what the deal was.

there was a pretty big crowd all day in the bottoms.

all in all a 9.5 on a 1 to 10.

Your going to get wet. It was cold when most of us were wet head to toe. A group of 6 adults went today. Alot of the trails are covered with leaves so some are hard to see and rocks are hiding. We did dry out and had fun.

A group of adults/kids are heading down Sat. the 7th. Should dry out more and be good riding.

Nobody has been on here in awhile....

I haven't been back to St. Joe since last summer. Hope its still a good ride cause I'm headed back the 12th-14th of March.

Is it busy this time of year?

represent618

it is consistently busy there all year when it is bearable to ride, from my experience.

How strick is St.Joe with there spark arrestor policy?

represent618
03-08-2010, 08:04 AM
never had any issue, nor have I ever heard of them enforcing it.

I would not worry about that at all.

The sparky is the first thing that comes off of all of our bikes :)

Things they will get you for:
Expired Tags (trailer/truck plates)
Alcohol
Speeding in the marked areas
Ramping off of the loading dock in the parking lot (DON'T DO IT!!)
Litter

Just be respectful of your surroundings, it is a state park and they will write you a ticket without hesitation.

I know for a fact that they soon will have the ability to test db's. If you're bike sounds like its above level, they have the right, and will test your machine. This is mostly for the guys who bring their old Dirtbikes out there with no muffler packing and blow everybody out. But like I said, they will be testing by summer if they deem necessary.

Thanks. not worried about the noise level, we are all good there. just no spark arrestors

natejohns7

I've only heard of them checking for spark arrestors once. A friend of mine had his checked. All they do is shove a stick down your exhaust to see if it gets stopped.

So its not common but they've done it. I would bring your arrestor just incase. It would suck to miss out on a days ride over something like that.

I just hope it is able to survive another 25 years.

I see your from West KY. How about LBL Turkey Bay? How does that compare? I only ask because I'm going there this weekend and have never been.

i love turkey bay. i have rode there off and on for 30+ year's. it's hard to compare the 2 turkey bay is all hills and hollows. you can always find a hill climb for a challenge. if you were in the parking lot looking west toward the trails. to your left is more rock and toyour right is more mud\dirt. you will not be sorry you came i think you'll have a blast. yell at me and i can show you around the area a little i'm alway's looking for a ride

I agree with RTJ 100%. Turkey bay is on of my faovrite places to ride. There are so many trails there that I most likely havn't ridden them all in over 20 years.

Like he said...The closer to the lake you get....ROCKY...stay away from the lake and you have mud and dirt.

Comparing them to St joe is not easy. I really like St Joe but only because you have two different types of riding that I love.

Turkey bay is just trails everywhere so you can circle around one hill for an hour and never ride the same trail twice....that's why I love turkey bay.

Well you guys were spot on. That place was awesome. You can't compare it to St. Joe because it is two different styles..... But I am declaring my love for hill climbs. I destroyed my bike and myself and I can't wait to do it again.
