14/40 = .35
15/40 = .375
14/38 = .368

Dropping two in the back will put you in the middle. Adding the 15 will yield the largest gain but unless you have some extra HP in mods, The 15 might not do much. If it's stock I would do the rear.

P.S. Are you really a member of your local 81?

I would try a 15 up front first. The front is cheaper to replace than the rear. I think the 15/38 would be too tall for the Z. IMO

it wont be stock when i change the sprocket, just a filter and a pipe tho, idk if that would be enough. And no im not a member, just love harleys, my dads had all different types since i could remember, cant wait to get my own

I run 15 front with 38 rear with holeshots in rear 20in and so far love it for fast riding 14,13 too much torque only good for hillclimbing short track dont do neither anymore just fast trails with some hills thats my opion.

hey i have the stock gearing on my 04 KFX...when in the dunes i am finding that first gear is to low of a gear, but second gear has to much and bogs me down big time. What would you guys recommend for front sprocket? btw i have a pipe and filter done to it and sand sharks..
thanks alot!

no more tippy fellings in sharp turn , bearing lasted me 2years after spacers installed and have been to the dunes in AZ,CA, tracks and muddy trails in MD,PA .also have rear axle im all around 49 in wide wish had money for a-arms and shocks but spacer are good for now.
