I picked up another 400ex frame for cheap on ebay and I cut my own gusset kit for it and started welding it in. I was looking on ebay and found a frame that a guy put a batterybox on the front of the frame on the cross member for the shocks. I thought this was a clever idea. Any input on this. I notice on my 400 now I have to pump forward so hard after a jump to keep the quad level.

Also I was going to make my own subframe possibly. And was wondering if anyone has made one or has any pics of one. I'm just going for a cleaner look and have to modify a stock one so much to my liking. I was going to make the subframe sit about 3/4 of an inch lower for a lower seat height.

Any ideas or suggestions.

bump, any ideas? am i completely off the wall? I enjoy customizing stuff and fabricating...that's the reasoning behind this madness.

For your lower subframe mounts you can use a heim to mount it to the frame, that way you can lower and raise your seat height by adjusting the heims.

That's a very cool idea.

Billyboy, no the frame is honda gray right now. probably going to powdercoat it a bright blue with metal flake.

mac_ando looks good, very clean look.

Any other ideas, is putting the battery in front a stupid idea?

I only ask, becuase there was a guy here in Ohio that built a frame up. Welded in his own special gussets he made in the front that completely closed in the triangle up front except a hole in the middle where the brake lines came through. Then he moved his battery box up front as well. to add the weight to the front instead of the rear.

I bought an aluminum airbox off ebay. Now I work at a steel/aluminum fab shop and am going to build an airbox as well. I'm going to bend the flanges out instead of in on the top and use those for resting on the subframe. I'm going to be making it out of 1/8in aluminum or 16 gauge. I have some drops of 1/8 so thats probably what it will end up being made of.
