okay well ive had an interesting weekend to say the least, over the weekend my brother was rdiding the kfx and it caught on fire on him (but was quickly put out), okay through dissasembly weve learned that the seal blew sptitting oil onto the headpipe causing it, but what i also found was that nothing was wrong with the seal itself that the glue that holds it on wore out so my question is could i just put more silicone on it? or would a whole new seal have that 3m stuff on the bottom of it and thats the correct route to take?

thanks

Head seal? You mean the rubber seal that goes around the valve cover? As long as its not broke it should seal but a bead silicone will help seal it good.

yeah that one so, if i went to an auto place and got gasket silicone it would be just as good as what a kawasaki place would give me?

They use liquid gasket (Kawasaki Bond) part No. 92104-1063.

well now kawis got me thinking with this one :huh, i finally got the new valve cover a week ago to find it had a crack in the side of it so the dealer was all nice about it and said no biggie come back in a week for another one, okay yesterday was that week and when i called the dealer they said that theyve been put on backorder and could be another 3 weeks, so now im scratching my head with kawasaki..... just kinda makes me wonder how that other alternative'S would handle the situation...

well i go a call yesterday from the dealer saying they heard it would be a week from wed. so im not holding my breath but for reference while i wait for this thing, can anyone tell me what the correct method is of getting a a clean even amount of the head sealant on the gasket? do you just follow directions or kinda smear it on with your finger or what?

The only place that requires sealant is under the half moon sections of the gasket. Make sure you clean the cylinder head surface thoroughly before you apply the gasket sealant. Remove any old sealant on the cylinder head. I usually use carb cleaner spray for the final step of cleaning as it dries very quickly. After spray cleaning, take one clean swipe with a clean cloth or paper towel.

Clean the valve cover bolts before re-installation. I also have a 1/4" ratchet drive torque wrench I have used for years to tighten valve covers. The clicker torque wrench helps to keep you from stripping aluminum cylinder heads and evenly distributes forces on the valve cover. The torque spec for the KFX450 valve cover bolts is 87 in-lbs. Hope this helps.

finally got it and got the kfx runnin today.... now i got some ground to make up for the last 2 months :D, that se valve cover look snazzy 9i still dont see why i had to wait so long) and it turns out i needed this kawabond 5 stuff..... anyway today im jut putting around the yard to see if it spits out any oil on the front onto the head pipe (where it all began) how long would you all think id have to run it for the oil to get good and hot and thinned out?
