Would a 13t front sprocket put more or less stress on the engine? Has anyone installed a 13t front i hear its to small to fit and requires a special clip? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It would put less stress on the motor but give it a ton of RPMs. I was going to try one but I'm waiting to see if D.K gets a 40t in.

A 13 tooth sprocket will put more stress on the engine cause it would wind out very easy in any gear. I have a 13 tooth front sprocket from Primary Drive, I've never installed it yet but yeah it does come with a clip for it theirs no 2 bolt retainer for it just 1 clip.

I understand it will put more stress because of high rpms but as far as actual stress it would be less. I have the problem of a 33t rear sprocket and a tight chain. So i dont want to have to buy a whole new chain, rear sprocket and all that if i can just get a smaller front sprocket and fix the problem. I dont think a 13t front for me will be as low as it would be for others with bigger rear sprockets, so that being said im not worried about the high rpm thing.

I have a 13T on my mine and it went right on, no clips involved that I remember, it was a little bit of a pain in the arse, but not much. You just have to watch the RPMs because 1st and 2nd gear are gone before you blink.....awesome holeshot though!

I guess it all start with what year your quad is. If you have a 33t gear on the back...a 13t up front will put you, what....like One tooth on the rear up from stock on a 2002, and 4 over for a 2005+?
Not sure about the 2005. Either way, you will cut your acceleration over stock, and increase your top end....i think..but it should work??? Try it and find out!

I think that is what im going to do . Cant be any worse than the 15/33 i have now

We're thinking of a 13 tooth, dang 450's beat me off the line and then they are slow. I need to get to the 1st corner first.

It doesnt use bolts at all? I was wanting to go to a 13 38 setup before my next race but I didnt know about this.

I hear it is to small for bolts so there is a clip that holds it in place. Then i also see them on ebay and they look like they have bolts, so im not sure.

It doesn't seem like just a clip would be enough to hold it in place. I'll let you guys know tomorrow when mine gets here from Dennis Kirk.

lol...I just notice why you guys aren't using the sprocket with the retaining clip it because Rockymtn.com sent me the wrong one. After double checking my order history i see the order history says 13 tooth 400ex front sprocket but really they sent me a 13 tooth 450r front sprocket , and i never realised it because I've never put it on. lol its only a $9.99 sprocket they charged me $8.99 so anyone need a front 450r front sprocket?

HOLY CRAP, you just scared the shiite out of me! I thought there was something I forgot to install!!!

Don't do that to a drunk guy coming off the lake!! I love my quad but sometimes you have to party on the pontoon boat with a stripper pole on it!! :-)

Just got my sprocket. Mine has a place to put the bolts fits pretty good. If it revs it too much I'm going to put the 36 on the back, then it will be in between the 14/38 and the 13/38. Now all I need is a 12 and I'll have one of each teeth size for the front.
Hyper here's some pics that you wanted.

Hey moose, if you put that 13 on there with the 36, tell me how it feels. I've been thinking about either going to a 37r or a 13f. I'm still doin the 14/36, and it still rips up top, but I want to get there a bit quicker. The 37 may do that. But i also like to RIP up the hills that have some larger boulder type rocks embeded in the dirt with roots and all. I think itspretty technical they way I like to ride it, and i want the torque to instantly lift the front to almost jump up these things, and keep my monmentum for the next one. But if the 13/36 has tooo much torque, i want to know....

knowing me, i'll get them both anyways

Just bought my 13t front, going from 15 to 13 am i going to have to remove a link from my chain?

mooseracerX
08-09-2008, 07:02 AM
I'll let you know. I'm going to try out the 13/38 today.
I'm thinking you will have to take one link out depending on how tight you can tighten the chain.

I'm running 13/39, both renthals and love it for trails. They look and fit great. This is with a stock motor though.

Alright that track was a joke. Horrible can't believe the series would run there. Anyways I'll be trying out the 13/38 later. Don't think I'll get to try out the 13/36.

Hey hyper go with a 13/36 I absolutely loved it. The terrain I rode on today was really sandy. It was awesome though, gets ya to where your going in a hurry, great for MX. Any other questions give me a shout. :)

08-09-2008, 08:56 PM
yea that sounds pretty good, do you think i will have enough room in my chain going from 15/33 to 13/36, i already have the 13 ordered.

mooseracerX
08-09-2008, 09:55 PM
I'm not sure with the + 2 swinger I think if you get a chain with 100 links you should be good. I have 99 links with a +1 1/4.
Could you count how many you have now? I could probably tell you how many if I the # you were running now.

hypersnyper6947

I will count them tomorrow when i go riding. The bike is in my friends garage or i would count it now.

Can some one tell me who makes a 33t. I thought the smallest was 36. Are they for a difrent quad and still fit a 400 or what? With 15/36 and 18s my quad has a little trouble hooking up and i want some more top end, like its not fast enough already..

hypersnyper6947

Sorry i had the 33t rear when i bought the bike. Why dont you try a 16t front. I would kill to ride your 500cc two stroke hybrid, that thing must be incredible.

Ok so i counted and i have 94 links, i think its so low b/c of my tiny 33t rear sprocket. My chain is in pretty good shape so i would like to not have to buy a new one. What rear do you think i could get to go with the new 13t front w/o having to change my chain.

mooseracerX
08-10-2008, 01:14 PM
hmmm... I'm not sure depending on how tight it is you might be able to fit a 36.
BTW your quad sounds pretty awesome you ever post a pic of it?

Thanks, yea i need to get some pics on here, it looks pretty cool the only thing is the tard who had it before me painted the names of the mods on the frame, so that looks really stupid other than that its pretty awesome. I just ordered front tires the 13t front a spal 4" fan, and a 450r carb. After that it will be perfect.....(other than the frame paint crap)

I think im just going to put the 13t front on see how it feels and then see how much slack i have in the chain and see if i can fit another tooth or two.

Thats what Im talkin bout! Seriously tho, with the stock swinger and 38t rear sprocket would I have to go down to a 92 link chain instead a 94?

Can somebody refresh me on what a stock rear tooth '07 is? I know stock front was 14 and when I dropped to 13 I couldn't believe how much I slack I had to take out of the chain, but at the same time, it seemed to do it without a problem.

Pretty sure its 14/38

Did you take links out to get rid of the slack?
Do you think you had enough slack to put a bigger rear sprocket on?

RaginRedneck
08-12-2008, 01:48 AM
Didn't take any links out, just adjusted it back.

I'm honestly not sure if I could fit a bigger rear....I didn't rotate it forward, however, if you left the front stock and just went up a gear or two in the rear, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

im dropping my front 2 teeth and im just wondering how much room im going to have in the chain, if there is enough i would like to put a bigger rear in as well.

I bought a 13 and 16. The 13 is sweet pulls up in third with a little help. The 16 won't go on with the stock chain so I will have to add a couple master links. I just bought the 16 so I could see the speed gain from 13 to 16. Will post the results of my GPS as soon as I get a couple links.

Man Rmatv done sent me the same 13t sprocket and clip just like RedRidder got, same part number and everything.
Somebody please show me where I can get a 13t sprocket that uses the bolts.
Has anybody even tried the one with the clip yet? I dont really trust that setup like I would with the bolts.:ermm:

Why are you guys flipping out about the clip. I dont see what the problem with it is for the matter of fact my 250f and 125 used one and didnt have any problems so i dont know what the problem with them is. And also even factory 250fs run the clip and are pushing mid 2 high 40s.So obviously they work.

Call me paranoid but I think the sprocket would move more on the shaft without it being bolted to that clip b/c that clip stays in the groove. I haven't really looked at it yet so Im not sure, it may work, but I don't really want to be the one to find out if it doesn't. :scary: I might just test fit it to see how much play it has since the sprocket didnt cost hardly anything. I just bought it so I could get the free shipping!:blah:

mooseracerX
10-02-2008, 06:28 AM
Yeah 13/36 is an awesome MX gearing. I pulled a holeshot against 10 450's. This is the gearing I've been looking for all year.

flauge
10-02-2008, 10:40 PM
I test fitted the clip style today and took it right back off. It could move maybe 1/4" more on the shaft than with it being fastened to the bolt style clip. It probably wouldn't hurt anything to run it with that extra bit of movement, but I'd rather doubt it and run it the way it came from the factory. I'll just wait on my jt to come in.

Nice did you start in 1st or 2nd.

I am running 13/33 right now, im trying to stretch my new chain a bit so i can fit the 36 rear. I cant wait to have the 13/36 on there.
