I heard that once you make the switch to synthetic you cant switch back to regular. Does anybody know if this is true or not?

Dont believe everything you hear. If that was true it would be printed on the containers that oil comes in.

You can switch back and forth all you want. Of course they wouldn't necessarily put it on the label... they want you to continue buying their product. Does Tylenol state on their label that it's OK to switch to aspirin?

Synthetic blends are just that - blends of synthetic and organic oils. The two work fine together. The important thing is to use oils that are safe for wet clutch use. I also wouldn't necessarily suggest adding a quart of one type to top off the other (synthetic and organic) simply because the additives may be different and not compatible, so the protection may be reduced... but in an emergency, sure. But switching at oil change time - no problem.

Oil is an issue where many, many ppl have many differing opinions, often based on rhetoric or something they've been told and not fact. Make sure that you get as much feedback on the issue and then make your decision based upon what makes the most sense.

Good articles on oils for motorcycles (although a bit of a long read) are:

BTW, I've been using Rotella T Synthetic 5-40 (available for ~$15 a gallon at Walmart) in all my bikes, except the 2 stroke, for 5 years or so. They all get ridden desert almost every weekend during the season. I change oil and filter after every 5th or so time out and have never had an oil related problem with any of them... actually have never had a mechanical problem that wasn't related to my riding stupidity!
