hello,

I have a yfz 450 and my friend just traded his 400ex in for a yfz after he rode mine.

What is needed on our yfz's to race both xc and mx?

Thanks

Gr4Y

Mx- Nerfs, teather kill switch, tires, a arms, axel, shocks, and a good rider.

That should get you started.:chinese:

but seriously, they are right about the MX.

for xc, start with a good set of skid plate, a tether kill, a set of nerfs...thats all i can think of for now. im sure there is more.

You like bushes?

Thats hardcore man...

But in all seriousness,

Gray, in order to RACE mx, you will need nerf bars, a tether killswitch and the appropriate safety gear.

To race XC, I would reccomend a full set of skids, nerfs and a tether killswitch.

The skid plates are not needed for MX, so get some that can be easily put on and taken off if you plan on using your machine for both sides of racing.

You should check the district where you plan to race. They will have a website with all the requirements.

On top of the other things mentioned in previous posts, you will need number plates with numbers.

You can't set your bike up perfectly for both so I assume you will be a casual racer. Just an example, stock width for mx will suk. However if you get longer a-arms, your shocks will never be optimal. You will get tired of resetting your ride height too. I would probably set it lower for mx and suffer when racing xc unless you find yourself getting hung up alot.

well first u actually need a quad.. not a made up one on an atv forum...:p :macho j/k dude

check ur local mx track for whats required but i would get the following no matter what

helmet
kill switch
nerfbars

any other safety gear u can think of

put a lot of thought into a leatte (sp) or evs neck brace...

lack of brain would help. or at least a lack of your brain that says " d**n, im not hitting a 100' double". if you do lack this part you will likely hit some amazing jumps and give guys like pappy a great chance to get pictures of you crashing.

good luck:p

like a few have said, money and lots of it

i raced mx for a long time on a stock yfz so you dont NEED suspension, and you already got nerfs.. so get some good gear and a kill switch

How much money are you looking to spend? It really depends on how you wanna set your bike up.... mx, xc, or a mix of both.

For either one, your going to need a helmet, (possible other safety gear, depending on where your racing) and a Tether killswitch

Especially for XC, a good set of skid plates is a smart thing to buy, as well as some good 6 ply tires. I believe Nerf Bars are really opinional in all XC events. Oh yeah, and a aftermarket bumper is a wise choice, too ;)

MX- Nerf Bars, mx tires... to start. But to be competitive, a set of aftermarket a-arms, axle, and suspension is one of the most important things in MX. Thats if your willing to spend the dough.
