I recently bought at 06 yfz 450, all stock except the edelbrock carb, and the yoshi exhaust. I was told to put the stock carb. back on and rejet it and it would be better than the edelbrock. I was wondering what intake do yall prefer, I was looking at the velocity one on ebay??

Also I store my quad in my garage and when off I turn the fuel switch off but my garage is also smelling like gas. I notice a little damp stop under the engine that could be gas, ne ideas??

If you ride in mostly dry conditions, the Fuel Customs Intake makes really good power. I run a UNI filter and I am very happy with its performance.

Make sure the damp spot isn't oil or coolant. Some yfz's have problems with water pump leaks. Make sure that your bowl drain screw is not loose. Touch the wet spot under your quad and see what it is.

it looks like gas is leaking out of the vent tubes for the carb. onto the swingarm but isnt a steady leak. Its enough to make the garage smell like gas really bad.

So I shouldnt get the velocity off of ebay right?
Im going to look into the other ones, thanks guys

lol.....yeah, they are 200 bucks, but they are definitely worth it, especially if you are going to do future engine work such as porting, high compression, cams, etc.
The FCI will give you the most hp with a modded engine.

before you put your bike in the garage, you can drain the gas from the bowl... this is a good practice especially if youre not gunna be riding for a while, as it will help prevent the fuel from gumming up your carb...

i run K&N filters... there are nothing wrong with them... however, Velocity is not made by K&N

the listing is no longer there... but Velocity makes a K&N type filter and that is what i was talking about... it has an interior cone type thing....

Here's what you need to consider about the intake kits. How much hp will you get as opposed to the price you're going to spend. I have heard some good things about the fuel customs, ESR, & Velocity. But I have also heard some bad things about each as well. When it came time for me to purchase my intake I chose the ESR bc it was the best intake for me in terms of price+hp. $70 ESR, $119 Velocity, & $219 FC. If the FCR is 2hp more than the others it's worth it. If it's only giving 1/2 more hp paying $150 more wasn't. Just my .02.

that filter looks considerably smaller than the pro design K&N... i wonder if that would have more flow than a pro design kit with the air box lid off... you can always cut holes in your air box too if you dont think your getting enough air...
