Can-Am™ announced today the release of its 2009 DS 450TM EFI ATV, complete with two new racing-specific packages. Returning for 2009 is the ultra-potent 2009 Can-Am DS 450 EFI ATV. The base model gets updates and two exciting models, the DS 450 X mx and DS 450 X xc models, also join the line-up. Can-Am now boasts the most race-ready 450 sport ATV line in the industry. All models get power from a proven Rotax® engine. And the ultra-light weight comes from cutting-edge computer design and the most revolutionary thinking in the sport ATV world.

It is still the benchmark for performance, handling and control – on the track and on the trail – thanks to the Rotax power, low weight, centralized mass, low unsprung weight, and fully-adjustable sport-tuned suspension.

“By releasing the DS 450 X mx and xc, we redefine the factory and amateur ATV racer relationship,” said Yves Leduc, Vice-President and General Manager, Can-Am Division. "The DS 450 continues to evolve and the base model was the perfect starting point for the two most race-ready sport packages in the industry.”

Wow.

They sure are not messing around. The XC looks awesome. I really like it. They thought of everything it looks like. The feature that sticks out the most to me is 7.5 in. ride height. No other quad comes from the dealer set up at XC ride height like that. I probably won't like the price though even though it is worth it with all those parts it comes with.

the bikes looks amazing and especialy the MX :eek2:

Don't worry about the hollow axle it's a very good design with less weight.

J.Natalie and Cody Miller race with these axle without problems they are much stronger than the 08 they have better material

They are as good or better than aftermarket ones

I still don't like the front bumper, the muffler and rear fenders.

I like that Can-Am's didn't wait until 2010 to improve their DS.

I don't like their interest on not to allow anybody to show pics of the ds before this release. Why?

The MX is everything I want to do with mine. Great job.

Anyone know if they fixed issues with the clutch? And how about the false neutrals that people were experiencing?

With the radiator still up front, I don't think it can be much better. Whether they made other changes or not.

From what ive been hearing, they arnt releasing these until 2010 now. They are suppose to be taking the 08 left overs and just selling them as 09's because they have so many left. But who knows which is true until ifs official.

In quad they said the mx front end and suspension is as good as any aftermarket front end out there. This is great not to have to go buy aftermarket to be competitive. Hopefully the big four will start to release both mx and xc version bikes.

Scrambling to keep up with KTM? Have you seen the freaking prices those KTMs are running for? And didn't Quad magazine leak this info way before KTM's info was out? Seems KTM is the one scrambling.

Why would they say these are 2009 models if they were coming out in 2010? Are you smoking something?

If what Quad says about the suspension is true, this is going to be huge! Not having to buy aftermarket shocks will save a lot of money. Personally, I think the future of ATV racing is really bright  and I can't wait to see the MX up close.

And is this an factory talking about RIDE HEIGHT in a press release? That is a sign of how serious they are taking racing. Usually the factory don't have a clue how important ride height is to proper suspension setup for racing.

Honestly, all signs point to this being really a race ready model, I think.

The can-am rep said they wont be releasing the 09's any time soon. They have too many 08's still at the factory that they are selling as 09's until they get rid of them. He said can-am thinks they have enough 08's to sell all the way through 09 right now. I hope not though because I want one of the new ones. I hope the exhaust and programmers with fit off the 08's on the new ones.

Yea Ive rode aftermarket. I have a full long travel setup on my yfz. From the looks of the can-am though they have heims all the way around not to mention on the tie rod ends. Pretty impressive. And who cares if they are triple rate. They are dual rate and the more you look at the top guys they are only using dual rate if they aren't on floats.
Only reason I see in paying for the ktm is if the motor puts out as much power as they say. The money you would have to put into the can-am to make the motor as good as the ktms would more than make up the difference.

How can they sell 08's as 09's??? The VIN's are tagged 08 and the new 09's have now been made public, so if someone were to buy an 09 and end up with an 08, Can Am would have a lawsuit against them. Your Rep is retarded if he is feeding you lines like that.
I am guessing the 09's will be on the dealership floors before the 1st of the year... probably WAY before the 1st of the year.

The 09's are sick! i've already had seat time on them and the only thing you'll need to be competetive is add on a Motoworks exhaust and find more space in your trophy room!! :D
