Can I rebuild the top end without removing the engine? I did a compression test today and I am only at 50 psi. It is a 1990 so it is probebly past time.

Yes you can. You may have to take the coil off for clearance.
Use Suzuki parts. :)

so I pulled everything apart and for how old it is it looks preety good . So my question is do you always have to bore out the cylinder or can I just hone and replace rings.

If it looks good just hone and ring it....... use a ball hone..... I just slame it in hard three or four times and then switch the dir. of the drill and do it again...... get a nice cross goin and that's it.... but I'd check with Jack the pantie twister.

Yea if I could get away with that it would be great. Every where
I call they want $60 + to bore this tiny cylinder. Also where can you get a ball hone that small.

I'm confused....why do you have to bore it if it looks good ???? if there is no deep scraches in it just hone it to knock the glaze off.

You can get a ball hone at Mcmaster-Carr

I don' t want to bore it but it seems like everybody does it on this site. I am just trying to do the right thing. Have you had good luck with just honing and a rering.

That's all you need ...... just get a ball hone a couple of mm's bigger than your bore and go for it.

So after I hone it I just need to get a set of standard rings.

10-4........... it may be better and cheaper if I just lend you my ball hone......I bought one for Kyle's E-ton when we were racing it... I rebuilt it once a mouth......

10-4 is right . To bad you are clear across the country or I would take you up on the ball hone offer. Can I get away with just a stone hone or does it have to be a ball.

Get a ball hone at Mcmaster-carr

Don't use a stone hone it sharpens the ports. The Ball hone knocks the edge off the ports and there's less chance of catching a ring.

ACK!!
The cylinder must be measured. That will tell you if a bore is needed.

"ball hone......I bought one for Kyle's E-ton when we were racing it... I rebuilt it once a mouth......"
Maybe that's why. It's about exact clearances ya know...
Go back to your illegal yard machine Mike.~twist-twist~.LMAO

Sorry, didn't mean to start an argument. No , I respect both of your opinions. Hopfully I will choose the correct way. Hey Jack ,would this be the time to mill my head or do I nee port work done. I have lightened both of my clutches. When i did the back one I couldn't bieleve how it launches.

I figured you guys were just screwing around. I just took the chance to stir the pot. We mostly ride trails and sand dunes so nothing to serious.
