Hey fellas. I am considering an 03 Yamaha Breeze 125 for my 9 year old. My only concern (since it is sight unseen at this point) is the brake levers. Its quite a haul to go see it, so before I do...

Anyone feel that the brake levers might be too "adult size" - as in, too long of a reach for a kid that young?

Also welcome any comments on the Breeze (good or bad) :)

Theres a kid on my road that has one.. I've never ridden it but It may be an okay choice for him.. But be prepared to upgrade;)

On the levers behalf, If he can reach the levers on a larger quad (yours?) then I bet the breeze's are closer.

my one friend had one when he was 9 years old, he rode it fine. that thing took a crap load of abuse and still held up pretty good. i think it would fit a 9 year old good. it seemed fine on my friend.

Yep, I have looked a some. I agree it has a great rep. But I really want to stay with a CVT (automatic). We don't ride hard, just some trail riding - and I don't think he's ready for a manual trans.

you dont need the clutch wiht the tranny on the 250ex, but i dont recommend the 250 for a 9 year old. unless hes bigger than the usual 9 year old kid:chinese:

i think a 250 is just physically to big for a 9 year old.

breeze's are unbreakable...solid machines. slow (to me now anyways) but for a 9 year old itd be great. my friend still has 2 1995 yamaha breeze's and we still ride them on occasion lol

and i had no problems with the brakes. i believe it also had a foot break...the hardest part was shifting it into reverse

my friend used to have one a big pos he sold it and got a blaster

I had one when I was 11-12 before my blaster and I couldn't rest my fingers on it like I do the clutch on my 450 but trust me I never had any trouble finding the levers when it came time to stop lol. There is no foot break though. As for getting into reverse it might be a little hard for a 9 year old. The gear shifter is on the side of the case and is an easy move but I used to have a hard time getting the parking break on. You really have to pull it far back and then put the stop down. I would highly reccommend the breeze over a trx90 or lt80 though. The breeze is great for trails where the smaller machines get hung up on the tiniest bumps, can't go over anything.

I had a breeze when I was 11 and I was no big 11 year old. It was my first quad and it was a lot of fun until I upgraded to a blaster. I had it for about 2 years and didn't get bored of it until I outgrew it. It was a lot of fun while I had it and I never had trouble learning on it. Since your son is 9 I would say he would like it for a good 3 or 4 years (I am guessing). So its great to learn on just expect him wanting an upgrade.

Wouldn't you?

Just trying to get him out of the 50 which power wise he is getting bored with - but at the same time not overwhelm him with a machine that outweighs him by several factors.

He has a Kasea Skyhawk and it is a great machine - no complaints at all. He can really throw it around, but at 9, it has lost the punch it (seemed) to have when he was 5 or 6.

It's really easy to bypass the requirement to pull the parking brake before shifting to reverse. There is an electrical connector under the hood that you pull apart, then short the wires to each other. You just have to be sure to come to a stop before changing gears.

Breeze is a good wheeler for a 9 year old. He can ride it for a few years before he is beggin for a 300ex or something like that. Levers are fine. and I think some of them do have the rear pedal brake.
