Who's raced an 08 YFZ 450?

My friend got one and said I'll need an extra motor to keep up..lol.

I rode it around and didn't think it was any faster than my DS. It has a touch more low end, but up top, they feel about the same.

I'm guessing whomever gets the holeshot will win...in a drag race.


Has anyone raced one and how did it turn out?

Not a direct race but..... 2 friends of mine one with a HRC honda and the other with a piped YFZ 450 raced and he beat the YFZ. Me and the Honda raced and I beat him. I just got a slip on with my DS and the wire cut, still a stock filter.

raced one from a low roll in 2nd, it was an 04 yfz with 07 motor, advanded cam or w/e k&n air box emilator kit, 3' header with ron woods supertrap vs my stock ds450x and i manage to pull away on the top end, he was only a fendor behind but hey that ant bad for a stock ds pullin a yfz from a low roll

the yfz is not the fastest. you have 3 people on here telling you that. i will take a video. stock for stock on the road from a dig a ds will take the yfz! with a jet kit they are alot faster then a stock ds. but the ds with a pipe and the wire cut walks.

I want to race a ds so bad, but no one anround my area has one that i know of, i raced a piped and jetted yfz three times and took him every time by about 5 quad lengths. I heard the ds's are quick though, havent even seen on on the track yet.

My buddy dynoed his YFZ...35rwhp. I did mine on the same dyno, back in March, but can't remmeber what it did baseline. It was less than the YFZ...I want to say it made 31rwhp. After we were done messing with it, it made 39rwhp.

Stock for stock, I could see how a YFZ could outrun a DS.

whoop whoop, raced a 06 yfz with advanced cam, k&n filter, ron woods airbox elimator kit, 3' race header+ron woods supertrap exhuast 20/10/10 9 paddle extreme hualers vs my stock ds450 with 20/10/10 10 paddle extreme haulers up comp. hill at oregon dunes, frist off, off the dig the yfz would pull ahead then once i grabbed third id start spankin him buy about 2 quad lengeths on the top end, belive me, HE WAS PISSED LOL but then again it could of been my 10 paddles vs hes 9 paddles, also spanked on some HRC 450R's =]

my brother and I both race ama d-14 i have an 08 can am and he has an 07 yfz450 when i got mine he had a pipe and mine was stock and we raced i bet him and we traded and the can am won again now that mine is all raced out he wants one so bad this quad is sick

when i raced teh yfz he had 9 paddle hualers i had 10 paddle haulers and my ds is 100% stock with air box lid on, hes yfz is nicly modded 3' race header ron woods exhusat, k&N filter with ron woods air box emilator kit and some kind of carb thats unkown to me but not stock, geared down a tooth in the front, when we where draggin he would pull ahead a lil off the lunach but once grabbed 3rd i would start gainin/pullin away from him, he then rode my can am and said is got a nasty 3rd that loves to pull xD

im not saying the yfz is a faster quad then the ds but i call bull**** on some of these people saying there stock ds beating a piped yfz 450. none of the 450s stock can beat the other 450s stock unless ur racing a modded ltr of course.

These numbers were in Quads Xtreme magazine. They used Nascar Pro equipment.

The 3 or 4 first ones, in practice you can't tell the difference because they are so close...

One thing we already knew, KFX and 450R are the slowest stock per stock...

Idk how they got that, because ive beaten an ltr with baffle out, air box lid off and cherry bomb when my quad was stock, and i beat a piped and jetted yfz when my quad only had a jet kit in, I beat both from start to finish and the riders are both about the same skill level as me, the kid on the yfz might be a little better then me so :confused: .

ride_red666 has seen the Yamaha I raced it was at his shop. 06 with an IceCube 488 kit. full pipe and what ever else. Wasnt paying much attention cuz the guy was a bit cocky. Tryed him out 5 races and beat him every time by atleast 3 quads all the way. I just got a slip on HMF, K&N, wire and lid off.


I ride in a group of about 15 quads. Everyone has more work then me or at the very least the same and we are all at the same skill level. I am most likely the worst since my leg was shattered. Everything from big bores to the same as me and no one can beat me. Trade machines or what ever.


Again I dont know if I had a hot machine that went a little better but it flat out hauls

Raced an 04-05 YFZ with the same type of mods. Pipe intake jet kit/wire cut and he beat me 2 out of 2 by about a quad length each time.. Near the end i began to very slowly catch him but off the line he was quicker for sure. If i knew him better I would have made him race in the sand or dirt to see if it made any difference as we were on a gravel road. In the end, although I would have been a bit pumped to beet him, I didn't really care, other than a drag race the rider makes way more difference around a track, over the whoops, or cruising through the woods and thats what im sure 90% of us are doing over 90% of the time we spend riding anyways.

Gravel is hard to race. A bit of harder packed will make all the difference. Pretty much all my races are in the sand and we all got paddles.

On another subject, another friend just bought a Raptor 700. I haven't ridden any other quad besides my DS on an mx track, but got the chance to give it a lap. Wow..I love the torque. It has some balls coming off turns! I didn't really get to jump it as my knee is still healing, but what little I did, the suspension was nice. Weight sucked. After one lap, I was fatiqued.

I was pretty impressed with it though. For what it is, it moves!

All of you guys should no by now that something like this is never gonna get settled. Cause some people are better riders than others and some just better at running their mouth. Only possible way to determine this would be to look up some sort of factory specs or dirtwheels haha.

i was at a drag race this past weekend and i lost to a yfz not sure on the year though but all i can say was that thing had to be built or have nitrous hiddin somewhere cuz that machine was hot lol it smoked me and all the other 450s in the class even the ktm that was there

im not trying to make anyone mad but i race a yfz450 i dont drag race that to me doesnt prove a thing who really cares. it doesnt matter what 450 you race anymore all you need to do is pick one that suits you body best and is most comfortable when you get on a track numbers out of a magazine dont matter and who beat what in a drag race doesnt matter all that matters is who can ride the best when the gates drop. just pick a quad that you suit you

I somewhat agree with you, but if you have ever ridden a ktm 450 this may not be true. I have ridden just about every 450 out there when they where stock and when I rode a KTM it was so much more powerfull than the others. JMO!

i raced an 04 yfz with dirtbike piston and crank 06 head with 07 or 08 oil cooling system w/e bull**** lol also had ron woods intake w/ k&N filter stock header pipe with drd slip on with proper jetting advanced or retarded cam w/e its called lol and 9 paddle extreme haulers and i walked him by about 1/2-1 quad Lengths 100% stock with 10 paddle extreme haulers, then cut my pink wire removed the air box lid added a k&n filter and motoworks sr4 slip on and now when we race on i spank him hard, about 3-4 lengths and my ds is loud as ****!

that yfz was a hunk of junk when it came in. buddy did not take care of it at all. but the ds is fatser stock vs stock. it will even beat a modded yfzs. you cant follow dirtwheels tho cause they think yamaha is the best brand out there i get first in ALL there test.

im with vette454. i ride a yfz and dont have any problems beating most can-ams on a mx track (thats because im faster than the other riders not because my yfz is "better" than the can-am). mx is a huge equalizer as far as quads go. its about 95% rider and 5% machine. all the 450s are very equal on the track with equally built chassis (50in width and 18in rear tires). i dont drag. compare that to mx it doesnt take much skill at all so its not fun for me cuz i have to push myself. to be fast at mx u have to be in great shape (train all the time and watch what u eat and that). i would rather have pride in myself than just my quad, but i do have alot of pride in both. more people need to ride atv moto and help us advance our sport. i dont know about other people but at the tracks i ride they dont treat the quads with much respect. we always are second to the bikes and it makes me mad. we have to go practice the track first all the time so we can "break it in" for the bikes. and if practice starts late since we go out first they just cut our practice short and still give the bikes their full practice. i think its mostly because more bikes show up instead of quads but idk. we need more people to show up and represent. jmo

My bro and I bought quads at the same time. He bought at 08 Can Am DSX while I bought and 08 LTR LE. Out of the box he was faster, no question. He had me by about 2-3 lengths in 100 yards. I then put on the cherry bomb, lid off and removed the baffle and he clipped the pink wire/ baffle out. I then won this race. We even traded and mine won by a little. Now with my Rossier pipe it isn't even close. We GPS'd them and I'm running 78.8 mph at the rev limiter while he is at 75.5 mph. I'm going to break out the radar gun soon. Even on sand with us both dropping a tooth I'm beating him with no trouble. We are both advanced riders looking to go as fast as possible.
