Well after waiting for a week to get my 400 back from the dyno and they finally got it done. The main reason I took it was to get my jetting closer. I still have to buy a new needle but they got it as close as they could with the jets I had. The first run it made 35hp, not bad but not the greatest. After they tuned it, 46hp. Its amazing how much a difference it makes just having it jetted right makes. He said I could probably gain a couple more with the other needle. :macho

Oh yeah, my torque was almost 58 ft-lbs

Dumb question, but I'm assuming you have a 416 eh? What other mods?

NICE!:D
Can't wait to do mine. I still run a bored stock carb

Nice numbers!
How much did they charge you for the runs/tuning if you don't mind my asking?

Not looking to be a dick but 46hp from a 416 with 58ftlbs of torque wow?

No, its a 440 stroker. It has a 87mm JE 11:1 piston, hot rods +4mm crank, port and polish, hotcam stage 3, 39mm fcr, sparks x-6, K&N w/o lid, and a AMR Monster coil. Thats it I think, if i think of something ill list it. Oh and it has the stock rev limiter because i havnt found a aftermarket one that will work right. Besides, it stops making power about 7500-8000 rpm anyways. Im also happy that it made a nice long power curve, not short and stumpy like some. Imagine what this thing would do with say a web cam and a little more compression :p

This is exactly what I'm running, nice to see that I'm not the ONLY one making 46 hp:p

^ If you change the compression make sure to run a 15:1 with a xr kick start kit and no compression release. ;)
JK but that seems impressive, makes the 450 guys do a double take.
I wonder how much HP mine has.

most 416 dyno sheets ive seen run around 35-38 hp. These were pretty well built ones though.

Well that's not nearly as impressive as 46 but it gets the job done with the best of them.

Deffinately. I had a 416 for a long time and did really well with it.

I cant remember everything since this carb has so many adjustments, but I think I had a 55 pilot, mixture 2 turns out, slow air screw 2 1/2 turns out, 200 main air jet, 190 main jet, needle on the 3 notch.
Im not sure what jets are in it now. I think its a 52 pilot, mixture 2 1/2 turns out, slow air screw 2 1/2 turns out, 200 main air jet, 200 main jet, and needle on the 4th notch down. Now I have to get a different needle with a taper that will make it run richer and a 205-210 main jet.

They originally told me $85 for the dyno runs, and $85 an hour for the jetting which took 2 hours. When I got there they said it was only $100. I didnt ask questions. I just paid and left

Hey nacsmxr, about how much is that 452 making, or do you know. I was going to do that until I figured i could do the 440 myself for cheaper.

drew you said you havent found a aftermarket rev box that would work properly yet, which ones have you tried and what problems where they causing if you dont mind me asking?
i'm in the process of building a 460 and i cant decide whether or not a rev box is worth getting.

I had a AMR stage 2 and 3 and had problems starting with both, but they both did raise my rev limit but didnt feel a power increase with either. Some have used them with no problems.
I have also used the white brothers. it started just as easy as the stock one and gave about 1000 rpms more, but I didnt get any more power.
Ive only tried 3 but got tired of waisting money on them, but if I do decide I want a few more revs, ill put the white bros box back on.

Can 58 ft/lbs of torque possibly be right? 46hp and 58 ft/lbs is hard to figure given the relationship between torque and HP: hp = (tq x rpm) / 5250. I'm not use to seeing torque higher than HP on engines that rev beyond 5000rpm or so. Heck, a 46hp raptor is probably gonna barely break through 40 ft/lbs. If I was a betting man I'd say the rpm pickup wasn't set right and doubled the torque figure as a consequence.
Got any typically formated graphs? Frankly, I would *demand* they generate a "normal" looking graph: HP and Torque over rpm on the same graph. Should be easy for them to do.
Regardless, like you said, the jetting is really the main thing. :)

dont forget it is a stroker gobbs of torque

I'd like to add a few more thoughts:
As someone else said, "not to be a dick", but I'm VERY surprised you got 24% power increase just from changing jets (10 points and one notch on the needle). When I put my 416 on the dyno we changed one notch on the needle and made a 17 POINT change on the main and gained something like a 4% increase in power.
Here is a link to a post outlining what ACTUAL jetting changes did to HP number and A/F ratio.
Dyno runs (http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=356359)
Also is the A/F ratio WAY too lean on the 46HP run? If I'm reading that right, I would not run it, to lean for my comfort level.
Here is an important thing to ask before heading to any dyno.
Tell them you want the native WinPEP files. You can then download a free verison of WinPEP and as GPracer2500 mentioned overlay any graphs and compare runs.
I brought a USB drive and the Tony Tice (Ticeman) was kind enought to save all the runs onto my usb drive.

The 46hp run isnt way lean. Its not dead on, but its in the 14:1 range where as factory comes 16 and 17:1. That first run where it only made 35 hp, was in the 17:1 - 18:1 range, which is way lean. That could explain the huge gain when it got jetted right. And like I said before, im not positive on clip position and stuff like that, all i know is there is a 200 main in it because thats the biggest jet I had.

I'm not sure what it actually makes, but it sure hauls the mail. I had it on an automotive Dynojet just to check the A/F ratio...but the numbers are way low and don't depict a quad's power accurately. I'd love to strap it to a dyno for quads and see what it puts down. It would be nice to get my jetting spot-on while i'm at it like you have as well.
