hey i have a 05 450r and i was wanting to put a higher compression piston and a cam but i was wondering if you could tell me the most realible piston and which ratio would be best because i dont want it tearing up on me after i put it in or any problems.....any comments would be great thanks alot

i would reccomend the cp 12:1 piston, great piston, and pump fuel friendly, also a hotcam would be good

That is what my daughter has....w/a HCstgII and a ported head.
pump gas runs great.

I have a CP 12:1 piston and a 02 crf cam. I'm very happy with the combo.

thanks alot....do you think the stage2 hotcam or the crf cam is best?...or which cam would you recommend?

Cam choice is all opinion. Just about any dropin is going to be better than stock. I love my 04's hrc. It is harder to ride with though. It has lower amount of lowend. That is why many like the crf, or hotcam. Of those 2 i'd go with the crf one only cause its a honda cam and is quieter when at an idle. Both will make the R make more power.

NO matter what you choose im sure you'll be happy good luck.

i like the hc stage 2, it pulls so hard, feels like you have a 1 tooth bigger sprocket.

Would 13.1 CP piston require race fuel or a 50/50 of race and 91 Octane?

anything over 12:1 requires race fuel. I wouldn't recommend 50/50 like many run. Both fules never mix correctly to get an even burn. Just my opinion but I would run strait race fuel just for the added insurance.

Trying to build on this thread a little bit. I am thinking of running a 13.1 CP and HC Stg 2. Looking for a little bit mid to top performance. I have LRD full exhaust and jetted carb w/ out lid of course and K&N. Valves would not need anything special would they? Or would it just be better doing the 12.1? Is there much reliability or performance difference between 12.1 and 13.1?

I think if you have the money for race fuel then i'd go 13:1 or even 14:1. I love my hrc cam, but it is harder to ride with it than say the HC stage 2 you mentioned. The setup you suggest is fine with race fuel, if you dont want to run it then go 12:1 with the HC st2. That will really wakeup your R.
