View Full Version : Brand new 400EX, no spark

I wont be able to take my quad to the dealer for a couple days, so I will make sure I am not missing something simple first.

My 400ex MIGHT have two tanks of gas through it so far, its a 2007 model I just bought less than a month ago.

I rode it for a short ride, and while idling in my driveway the quad just quit and would not restart. I pulled the plug and holding the electrode against the exhaust pipe or an engine bolt I get no spark at all. Sounds like the ignition module puked.

I know the machine will not fire in reverse, but I have tried starting it in every gear to no avail. Any suggestions before I yell at my dealer?

BTW my main reason for buying a new quad, and a Honda in particular, is because I wanted ONE thing I owned to be dependable and start when I want it to. I am not a happy camper to say the least. Thanks for any suggestions

Likely just fouled the plug while it was idling.

I owe Honda an apology, she is running again and yes it was something stupid.

To save face all I will say is jeepthing was very close in his suggestion lol.

On the plus side I did get a 13 tooth sprocket on the bike today, and it really rips through tight trails in 2nd now, and reverse isnt quite so scary. I really like it this way

well ???:confused: how do you hit the kill switch when your idiling were you waving at someome or somthing? sitting on it ha..

thats what it sounds like he did to me...lol. at least he was in his driveway. my leg hit it once off of a steep jump face and it wasnt fun...i did save it though
