I am building a 426 and i thought about going ahead and putting a big bore sleeve in so it will run cooler and be more reliable and so i can go to a 440 in the future.

So.. i have herd of having the crank case machined to fit the bigger sleeve and just grinding it with a dremel. i think i would rather have it bored out cause im not good at making holes round. and i read that there should be .020 of play between the sleeve and the case. can any machine shop do this? i have no idea who im going to have do the machine work on this motor i would like to get it all done at one place and hopefully save a few bucks. this is what i need done

1 new sleeve pressed in
2 HD head studs installed
3 cyl bored out
4 and the case bored to fit the new sleeve

no machining of the engine cases. how do i know, cause i have a LA sleeve installed on my 426ex and no machining of the cases was required.

i thought the whole idea behind installing a bigger sleeve was to make the walls thicker and therefore you had to bore the case out?

as far as I am aware the cylinder its self gets bored out to except the new thicker sleeve. Now on my 426 if I ever decide or need to I can bore the existing sleeve out to except a 440 piston.

Yup, the jug gets bored out to accept the new sleeve. No boring of the cases necessary.

my sleeve was already notched for the case
