IMHO, I think the 09 looks great. I saw the video's of them and they look so much better and has a nice aggressive look to them. The fit and finish looks the best it's ever had. I also noticed the battery is in front of the engine like the LTR, and the key is on the side fender. Also from pics, looks like all the bolts are just like the KTM's, so very easy to work on. And now there over $3500 cheaper then the KTM, it would be a no brainer on which to buy.:macho What's your thoughts?

Look like the Battery in front on the IRS on left rear on 450MXR and 525s

You would think they would put the battery in front on all 3. This would lower the center of gravity and keep the weight in the middle and not on the side. Plus I hear the 525s is still light in the front, and this would help some.

I don't like the new plastics. The dual headlights on the 07/08 models are more aggressive looking. Looks like they borrowed the headlight on the 09 from the ktm's. Hopefully the fox shocks are fully adjustable, that would be huge! The heel guards are definately better on the 09.

I just hope that it wasn't so totally revamped from 08 that parts will be scarce for my 08 MXR.

07/08 Outlaws look more aggressive to me and the 09's look more like a racer

From what I read, the frame is the same, but a few tabs for the plastic were changed. So bumpers, shocks, exhaust should be the same. Nerfs might not as I read they were moved a inch forward.

I like it, but IMHO, it isn't an Outlaw anymore. I think I'll be keeping my '07 for a long time.

Looking at the front fenders, it looks like they would be grabbing more air rather then deflecting it. Could make it easier for front fenders to crack ?

Have to agree there.
It completely lost the Polaris Outlaw look. Now its just a Honda/KTM hybrid. :ermm:
Yes, it looks like if i ever end up upgrading it will be for a used Outlaw (pre-09).

Too bad. I thought Polaris had the most unique look amongst atv's. Now I guess the Kawi is the most 'unique' looking.

They are not that ugly lol. I would say the front has a 450r look while the rear is a bit KTM.

Have to agree on that comparison with the KTM and 450R.
Is a shme though. Polaris used to have its own look.

And yeah, it is still no where as fugly as the big Honda! :ermm:
Honda imo has gone to just plain bad looking. My 02 EX is much better looking than the new Hondas, imo.

I got rid of my 2007 and cant wait for the 2009 to be avaliable!

I personally like the way the new plastics look, but I better like the heel guards, the 10" rear wheels, 6lbs lighter, and much lower center of gravity.

Personally I like how the rear of the bike looks, and with me racing everyone I am sure they will enjoy seeing it too!

On a sidenote, how is the IRS racing?
A lot of people without it told me they would never go that way over a soild axle.
I think I would love the IRS for trail riding, but for hill climbing???????
What was the last year for black anyway? lol ;)

I blast up hills on mine. IMO, I have ridden both and the IRS hooks up way better and in some cases too much. Rutted hills, the IRS will have the advantage since it has clearance. The flaws with the IRS is it is a little heavier, more maintenance since it has more moving parts, and it wants to hook up more when turning which I do not mind. If you have the suspension set up on them they are great, you will not be as sore after riding as you would a SRA. I want to try racing a SRA to see if I like it since it is lighter but for trail riding I love the IRS and would rather have it than a SRA.

The myths that the IRS does not slide is totlay untrue. I have pictures of mine roosting all the way around corners.

Lots of pictures here of my ride

Yes, that is a big one that I hear...that it will not slide.
i was at Trevorton 3 weeks ago and somebody completely flipped their IRS the entire way down from the top of a large coal hill.
Everybody was speculating that the IRS allowed it to 'fold' and thus caused it to lose balance and flip backwards. ????

SSJEFF
08-06-2008, 10:29 AM
I do not want to go there but maybe it had to do with the rider lol. The IRS will not fold. If anything it will not high center on a hill. They used to say you would fall off the earth cause it wasn't round.

If you notice, those are razr2 on the back which are the grippiest tires you can get IMO.

I'll need to ride one sometime!

If he was trying to turn sharply at the top of the hill and did not unload the rear it will push in the turn. Too slid the rear end of the IRS you have too move forward a little too unload the rear. On a steep hill I can see how this would end up in a roll over. The first time I went too the dunes with the Outlaw I tried to throw a roost on a small dune and got shoot over the top. I landed 15 feet down on the flat on one rear wheel. The IRS soaks up the landing and I was able to recover. With a SA that type of landing would have busted the axle and the quad and I would have gone into a head over heal cart/barrel roll and a trip to the Hospital.

I agree with bill! you have to re-learn how to go fast and the tricks to riding are totally different on a IRS quad. Once you have it down tho it is fun. I was racing with my brother a while ago and we were both hitting the corners so hard and launching out so fast we were doing one wheel wheelies to the next corners. It was insane. Lots of traction. If we were racing a s/a he would be still at the corner doing some roosts.

I agree with Jeff. IT IS ALL IN THE RIDER.

Personally i am starting to demise a plan to convince my wife to let me get the 09 IRS. Any suggestions?

Unless you have a problem with the ergonomics or the steering then I would just stay with the 07-08.

Tell her the 09 will make something she likes.......bigger!! Your married so this will not work probably.

Yep.
I was talking with a guy on a new KTM about 2 months ago.
He looked like he was sitting on a Powerwheels quad. LOL !

To be honest, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the IRS. Now after riding both, IRS hands down can't be touched. Its the most bad *** quad in the market IMO. The ride feels so much smoother and my back feels great after long rides. Climbing up hills with loose gravel is easy. The power is always there, and with the IRS so is the traction. I don't think I will ever own a Solid axle again.

Once you go IRS you will not except anything less then the best!!!!

just my 2 cents though. If you want to be a hardcore racer get the solid axle but on the real how many of us will actually go pro?

I put the stock tires on the other day and never really ran them. Always had Razr2's. The stockers do not allow you to slide it as easy as the razr2's do.

The new look on the 09 Polaris is not my favorite, I like the old look better. It just looks to much like the KTM. It will still be a great quad. Moving the battery lowering it and lowering the weight are all great things. BUT THEY DIDN'T FIX THE AIR INTAKE SETUP, so I hear lol.

I still like the look of the "angry black bug". They should have stuck with it, I like having a quad that doesn't look like every other one.

I like the looks of the 09, one of my favorites now. I'll be honest, I wasn't too keen on the 07-08's in race trim, (D. Eichner's), with the lights removed and mostly flat aftermarket hood. I wonder if Quadtech will do a hood for the 09's...? I also like the transition of the seat to the tank better on the 09's, seem to flow better. ...more like a dirtbike kind of, in that area. Less faseners for the plastic will be better too. IMO :D

Rath modified a yfz quad tech hood on theirs at the Steel City race. Jennifer Rath said that Quad tech is in the process of making one for the 09.

Well, I don't think they should be calling the '09 an Outlaw.
It's just not an Outlaw anymore.

Should have renamed it the Sabre or something.
It looks like the Phoenix an aweful lot to me.
Just looks like a China-bike version of the KTM.

Maybe it will look better once folks start to customize them... etc.
