The other day I changed my oil, because it was low on oil and needed to be changed and after I changed it my engine was smoking a little, is that bad? It stopped after about ten seconds.

What color was the smoke. Blue smoke is burning oil, if it only did it for a few seconds then your going to need a rebuild in the future. The gas is just starting to leak through the engine cycle. If it was white smoke it is just a carbon buildup in the exhaust if im not mistaken. I got my motor rebuilt back in march and have only rode it 3 times. It smokes white but goes away.

this is common especially with aftermarket pistons, because the rate at which they expand is different from that of OEM.

if it were rings or valve seals you'd be looking at a blueish color smoke

i too have white smoke when i first start my quad for about 10 seconds, at first i didn't know if it was the zip ties that where touching the engine i cut them away, but i do have a after market piston. Is this something that is bad?

White smoke usually means burning coolant. 400EX's aren't liquid cooled so I'd say theres most likely a little moisture in the exhaust thats just burning out. Did you wash it by any chance?? You couldve gotten some water into the exhaust and the packing probably got wet.

it seems to smoke up front by the engine, but yes the first time was when it was out side and dew was in the air, and the other time i think i did wash it...?

If it is something really bad do you think a trained tech could spot while it is being dyno'd tuned. I plan on having it dyno tuned on monday and hope while they are doing it they might have a idea as to why it is going on.

Does it only do it after it sits for like a day or more?? Or is it everytime you shut it off and then start it back up??

Its not coming out of the tailpipe at all??

no from the front, which is why i think it was the zip ties touching the header or engine, or a leak up front but if it was a leak it would keep doing it.

I wouldn't even worry about it then.
