I was wondering if anyone studs thier tires to play on the ice in the winter, if you do what do you use and what kind of tires work best?.. I was thinking of using an old set of tamers

what lake do you ice race at? have you ever heard of lake wapogaset? but back to the topic... if you dont stricktly ice race then you shouldnt stud your tires. just get some tires that touch the ground as much as possible to get the most grip.

I have never Ice Raced just because I dont know where they have any organized Ice racing but id give it a shot if i knew where some were, I tryed studding my stock blaster tires with sheet meatel skrews but that didnt work cuz the tires are to round.. I have a set of old tamers that i dont really need cuz i got new ones and we have about 6 inches of ice on the lakes here but with only about a half inch of snow:huh and its but ***** cold every single day, but any wyas what would work best for studs cuz all i do is spin otherwise?

Yeh go with the tires that look like turftamers but have a solid lug. There cheap and light. I hear the bandits front are a good front to stud.

i dont really know of any ice drags around here but lake wapogaset has snowmobile drags and if i talked to the owner/organizer i would ask him to start quad ice racing. I think that would be sweet! id have my friend line up next to ya with his banshee.

I stud up every winter... and I found that the Cheng shin ice tires work awesome... I did stud up a set of tamers once and I lost all of my studs in just short period of time... I do not recommend turf tamers to stud up, cause they are a softer compound than the Cheng Shin ice tires. You can find studs at any honda dealer... they should have them on hand.... they also have different sizes to choose from.
Also I learned a short while back that you should run about 15-20 lbs of pressure in the rears for best results.
Ice if very tough to tackle, and just plain stock tires will most of the time just not do. If you go on the ice a lot......get a set of rear ice tires and you'll be glad you did.

I just got done studding a pair of Cheng Shin c828 i think is what they are. They look really clean with the studs. I will see in a few weeks how they perform, i have about 250 in each tire. I got one done and im workin on the other one. I just used sheet metal screws.. but the hardware store ran out. i gotta wait till tomorrow when they restock. Im still waiting for the ice to melt more here, i hear its supposed to be 40 for a few days next week.. thats not cool

i went out ice racing this past weekend and it was the funnest type of ice racing i have evr done. there is just so much passing and battling back and forth that its cant be compared to motocross. dont get me wrong i love the race MX but ice racing to me was something new to look forward to in the winter!

you need to but alot more screw in that tire jmho though cause the more you have on the tire the fewer you will rip out a and if you have less you yill rip them out pretty quickjust my experiance though but if you but like another 250 at least in everytire then it will look and prefore pretyt sweet

1/4 inch i think. Im very sure on that, cause i didnt want to go through because there isnt a whole lot of meat left on those tires. I will test them out in a few weeks to see how they are. I dont want too many in there because i like to slide a bit too, and i have riddin some with way to many studs and all it wants to do is wheelie on the ice, which isnt a bad thing at times, but i like to get grip, yet be able to slide around.

Wooly Booger tires are 22" for general riding and have holes in them for studs.
