How hard would it be to install a 2000 xr650r engine in a 2001 300ex Would it even work? I have both and have been toying with the idea? I know i will have to completly redo the susp but thats cool got plenty of time! Much thanks for checking it out!

there have been several xr650s put in 400ex frames but a 300ex? i dont think so.

It can be done i am sure, anything like that can be done. But a good running 300EX with some mods wont keep the front wheels on the ground cause of the wheelbase. I can image a 650cc 300ex hahaha

i say if this is something you want to do then at least pick up a 400ex frame, that way it will be somewhat reliable,

the 300ex has a very narrow wheelbase, and the frame is not designed to handle that kind of power and abuse, it just wont hold up in my opinion, anythings possible and i have seen things of this nature done to a 300. but you gotta draw a line where fun and cost + function meet

this is just my opnion of course, i love to see what people can come up with, i just dont want to see ya end up with dissapointment

The frame is my major worry. The wheel base i can fix with an 89 250r extended swinger? Have 250r a arms +2 so should be +6 On this? I have a +6 axle This is just an idea so please dont bash me too bad! I just like to spend time and money on my bikes better then spending it on something i cant use or getting myself into trouble and that usally runs about 2500 and I miss a few days of work! So I do these projects to keep myself busy! This would be the biggest to date if i tried! Well besides the Cars! I am thinking it would be best to find a 400 or something my xr is well built with the full HRC kit Hinson clutch components Titanium valves ported ready to Go! And would benefit more with the 400 frame cause I do want this to be safe LOL if possible My buddy runs a 250r with a gsxr 750 I think thats the size? But it to me seems only fun in a straight line Drag or hill climbing I dont even want to consider that! I am too throttle happy for that size! And i love to trail ride If anybody has a cool project feel free to drop some pics :D

anything can be done as long as you kno how to gusset and add to the frame to help with the added stress of a higher powered motor.

to help boost you confidence i was at a pit 2 weeks ago and i saw a blaster with a gsxr 600cc street bike motor. and the frame has stock suspension and overall width. just a few pieces in teh frame for strength and support.

it was insanely fast but the guy did no kno how to ride anything and pulled it on its *** end in 3rd gear mid throttle.

it was hilarious but anyway if he can fixt a 600cc street bike motor in a blaster you can definitly fit a 650xr motor in a 300ex just remember to take your time and fab up a lot of braces and make sure theres some time of extension on the swingarm. its no fun when you pull wheels in ever gear at low throttle.

the easiest route would be a 400ex frame but since you have the 300ex and moto available i say try it and see what happens and make sure you post pics

I was talking with my friend He said he had think 00 kx500 not sure the year looks newer he said 1000 he also has like a 97 or something for 500? Would that be better in a 400 then the 650r?
as far as ease and money?

i've actually seen it done. I wouldnt do it in a 300ex because it looks stupid with such a huge swingarm and you have to modify a lot of things. Sure you dont need that long of a swingarm you could use stock but I bet you have a hard time going full throttle keeping the front end down.

Dirt Wheels actually did a story on the 300ex/xr650 conversion a while back. I think it was around the time the 400ex came out. I'd look for the back issue on it. The kx engine would probably vibrate too bad for a quad frame.

I have done alot of thinking and IMO the 500 would be more suitable for future maint. Compared to the 650? Being a smaller less technical engine?
