my friend didnt like how the 85 i rode had no low end torque. he likes the way my 150r rides and how it has gobs of torque. I was wondering if the kx100 had more torque than the 85? Does it have as much as the 150r or close?

If you are looking for a 2 stroke that will run with a 150 you need to look into a KTM 105sx. I am 5'4" and weight 155 lbs and my 105 will haul my butt around the track with ease. Its light easy to start and still runs like a top. Just my .02.

You're pretty big for that bike.

Kx 100's are a joke really. Most 85's will run right with them. The only bike up from the 85's worth getting is the 105. The only thing is you'll out grow that bike in a year. Go straight to the 125. You'll save yourself money in the long run, plus you'll be able to ride that bike forever.

That's just about the time to start moving up to a big bike. Most of the kids running schoolboy are 12-15 and on 125's.

stay away from 100's. Not worth the money. You'd be better off running the 85 for another season or just jumping up to the big bikes.

I wouldn't say it's a waste of time. I ride one because it fits me better. Is my 105 a powerhouse? Nope but can I hold my own against all other big bikes? yep. Why because I actually feel 100% comfortable on it. On all big bikes I can't reach the ground even with the seat cut and extra sag in the suspension or having my suspension travel limited. So I have the good old 105. I can reach the ground with both feet. I make up 90% of my time on the big bikes in the corners. All the guys that I ride with have 250 2 strokes or 450 4 strokes. Do they pull me on the straights? You bet your tail end they do. I just hold it on longer, brake harder and rail the outside of the turns. So even with the big bikes power advantage we all ride at about the same level. It also depends on what you plan to do with the bike. I can "illegally" race my 105 in the new 125 two stroke class. It actually is below the displacement limit as well as the wheelbase limit. But at all the tracks I run at they really don't care. 5'7" is tall for a 105. A 125 would fit him pretty good. But for us vertically challenged smaller bikes can be just as fast, and a whole lot more fun.

Keep in mind this kid is 14 and still growing. He'll outgrow a 105 in a season. You'd still be better to go up to a 125. You'll probably save yourself some money in the long run too.
