well im 14, almost 15. I started out racing dirtbikes (kx 60 then cr85 expert). Im riding a blaster now and I wanna get back into racing like 25% of the time and gravel pit/ fast trails/hopefully a big freestyle style jump the other 75% of the time. what would be the better quad?

Go with the Z for the simple fact its a 4-stroke. Less maint.

i have no problem with doing the maint. on a two stroke as ive done that for a couple of years. do the z's have any reliability problems?

Umm,not really. The 2003 have frame issues. They all have coolant issues. You get one, open up the water pump and check the impeller. If you notice large chunks of crystal build up, then get rid of that crap and flush it with water. Then slap some Motul coolant in it. Motul is safe on Magnesium/aluminum. Other than than that I dont know. The frame issue should only by address if you race, other than that, I would worry about it. Hope that helps;)

I would agree with airmobile the Z is a great bike and is slightly faster than the 400ex. The 250r is a awesome bike but idk if u want the hassle of a 2 stroke.

Add another vote for the z. I love mine, throw on a frame gusset kit (my frame cracked over the front shocks jumping in the backyard) and get yourself some nice shocks and you will be set.

I personally own a 400EX and a 250R, and I say any of your choices there wouldn't be a bad one.

Hypothetically if i didn't have a quad, and found a good deal on all three, I'd pick the Z.

I think this is totally the wrong place to post this. Of course everyones gonna say get a z...This is the z forum!!! Put this in the open forum. I have a 400ex, and i can keep up with a z in any situation. In my opinion, go with a 400, either way, you will be getting a very good bike! Both bikes have their ups and downs, but what it all comes down to is the rider in pretty much every situation other than a drag.

Just because i have a 400ex doesnt mean i cannot go to the other sections and look at what kind of bikes people have, or make a post.:ermm:

I really dont know much about the predator, but i dont like them. Ive never really been impressed with them. On a side note, When i got my NEW 07 400ex a week ago, I got $1000 off because hondas trying to get rid of their old models, so im putting what i saved towards aftermarket parts. Check with your local honda dealer if your interested to see if you can get that rebate. It would also be a smart idea to check with a suzuki delaership to see if you can get a similar rebate on an older model. Just dont listen to people saying that a 400ex or a z400 sucks, because they are both great.

Nobody said you couldn't. But your the one that made the comment about posting in a Z thread. Not me. I also don't remember reading or posting anything bad about a 400EX. Then again, I wouldn't buy a 400EX. Not because its a bad bike, but because a Z400 has more to offer for a lower price. When you compare a Z400 and a 400EX side by side, there is no comparison. The Z has more to offer:blah:

I owned a 400ex and now I only own 2 Z400s if that tells you anything. Get the Z. I have rode the crap out of both of my Zs with no problems.

i have an 07 400ex, but 2 of my friends have z400's. they are both good bikes, but mine is the fastest, and we all have the same amount of mods. one of the z's engines just went out and the other z has had its share of problems. i've heard that the 400ex engine is bulletproof. i haven't had any problems with my 400ex. i would get what ever is cheaper, can't go wrong with either one.

You can't go wrong with any of the machines you've listed but I'd personally pick the 250r (I love my 2-strokes). I've owned two 400ex's and ridden many z 400s and liked them, just not as much as the 250r. I'd suggest riding each model if you can and pick the one you like the best.

As far as the Z's motor reliability goes, I've had great luck with the two drz 400's I own (same motor as the z 400). Its not nearly as high maintenance as the 450 quads.

Okay, theres a couple things to determine here. I would choose the 250r, but.

Do you like your blaster motor? Because the 250r will have a very similar power curve, but a much more violent hit up top. Whereas the blaster is mellow.

If you don't want that type of engine, now we're down to the 400's. All I can say is ride both. I like the engine of the Z, but the chassis of the 400ex.

So really, you have to ride one to determine what you like. I personally, would probably pick the 400ex because I like the ergo's and feel of it. But I wish I can put a Z engine in the 400ex frame, because of the liquid cooling and such.
