will a 426ex with a hotcams stage 1 pump gas compression have lower or more power than a yz426 motor??

less..

Your talking two completely different animals. The yz426 is a real high-tech liquid cooled DOHC engine. The 400ex is just a simple lo-tech aircooled engine.

I believe (but dont hold me to this) that the yz426's push about low 40's stock.

ok another question how does the yz426 power compare to the 450r,yfz,kfx,ltr power? and what all would i need to put a yz426 into my 400ex frame? its possible right?

and one other question how does a 440ex w/stage 2 cam and race gas compress compare to a yz426 motor

good luck ever trying to get a 400ex to make the power that the YZ426 makes

so a yz426 motor has less hp and torque than any of the 450 quad motors?

dang its useless if i ever want to be competitive i have to get a 450.. unless theres a way to make a reliable yz426 motor thats more powerful than the 450's

well you can easily put out much more than 40s hp on the yz426 but even on a honda your still dealling and bidding on reliability when you install performance upgrades. simple pipe and cams will run you another 5-6 hp in the 426. so it deffinetly has more than competetive potential

okay then to put a yz426 motor into my 400ex i would need:

yz426 motor
motor mounts?
pipe
wiring harness
carberator
stator?
radiator?

what else?

Or just get more skills. Become a better rider, I can outride some guys on 450 bikes (more than likely they were novice riders, but oh well), but its all rider skill...:ermm:

there is a guy on here who put a 450r motor in his 400ex, if your going to be putting a new motor in anyways why not just do that.

well if i can stuff a blaster motor in a 1987 kawi mojave then you can stuff a 426 into a 400ex lol. the mojave was custom streched. i made it to fit a 86 yami srv540 but it failed and we had an extra blaster motor adn stuff that in there. but i think were missin out on some details. do you have a 426 motor laying around? do you have a friend who is selling one cheap or do you have a good cheap lead on one or somthing? youll have to get a cut off wheel, whelder and some basic knowhow, its really not that hard. but youll have to make sure the rear end will fit in the swing arm. dont just jump in. if you can mount the swing arm to the engine and the frame. your golden. if not, youll have some serious custom fab to do. im not entirely sure if the 426 swingarm mount is wider or skinnier. if its skinnier, your golden. just jery rig up some bushing to make up for the loss of space.

the yz426 is a popular swap.

the power of the yz is no comparison to the EX. a built EX is more comparable to a 250f bike engine.

Someone around here does (or did) make an install kit. It included an oil tank, brackets and such, I believe.

the yz426 power is comparable to a mild 450 quad (pipe, jetted). the 426 has a lot of potential to be a fast quad. my quad with mods in sig, can outrun quite a few 450's. the top end is where the 426 really shines
;)
