today i pulled the plug out of my 300ex and i noticed that their was oil around the plug hole so i rolled the engine over a couple of times and oil came out what could be the prob.

Most likely the piston rings are bad. How many hours are on the motor? I guess it could possibly be valve seals as well.

Is there a lot of oil, or just a little bit.

i am guessing that their is alot of hours b/c the kid that had it before me and my cousin raced and then my cousin had it and then i got it would that be causin it not 2 start and the white smoke comin out of the exaust and the oil that comes out aint that much but it is enough 2 tell

Try taking a lil oil and a lil fuel and putting them in the spark plug hole then try to start it after putting the plug back in. The oil will seal the rings if it is low on compression and the fuel will help it to fire. If it does try to fire and run then you are low on compression and you will need to take it apart and see what is happening.

k i will try it and if it dont work i was wonderin how hard ir would be 2 replace the rings and the main thing is gettin it back in time

Or just do a compression test. Much easier. You said it was white smoke?

I dont know about the 300 but on my 400 you cant get a compression guage in the hole do to the wierd size of the plug. Besides it takes two minutes to do this and you can very easily screw up compression readings. THis way it either runs or it dont...

yeah 400exs have 18mm spark plugs when others are mostly 5/8, but compression check would be easier, and then you can put a few drops of oil in there, and if the readings are higher then you know for sure that your rings are bad.

well i havent got a chace 2 do the oil and gas thing but when i pulle the plug and rolled it over it seemed 2 have great compression and yea the smokw was whiteish blue

good point pro-rider. Im not tryin to say my way is better than one but i just do what works for me...the z400 i have been workin on we did the oil and fuel and it tried to fire over leading us to low compression. Oh and we would have done a compression check but the spark plug on that thing is tiny and i have a select few adapters for my guage...

i just got back in from trying 2 start it with using the gas and oil method and it still didnt work but when it rolls over it makes the sound like it is going 2 start but i woulnt and white smoe comes out of the exaust so is it the rings or could it be a stuck exaust valve i relly need some help so plz comment back

Get a manual and dig into it further, more then likely it is something internal...

k well i called a guy that wouks on bikes from where i live and ask him what the rebuild price would be which includes all the parts and labor would be about 400$ is that a good price

Well im doin my buddys Z400 right now and he spent 250 in parts alone so i guess an extra 150 for labor wouldnt be to bad...

well i really didnt know he said that it was a complete top end rebuild which included it bein bored out

Well maybe then we arent boring or anything, the cylinder looked good so were just puttin a piston and rings in it...

how do u relly know if u need 2 bore out i know its by looking at the cylinder but what do u relly look for

EVEN THOUGH THERE IS OIL ON THE SPARK PLUG IT SHOULD STILL START,, UNLESS IT IS MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. THE COMPRESSION TEST DOES'NT ALWAYS TELL YA THE OIL RINGS ARE BAD,,, BUT IF OIL IS MAKIN IT TO THE SPARK PLUG MOST LIKELY THE OIL RINGS ARE BAD.
IIF YOU WANNA GET IT TO START I WOULD PUT IN A NEW PLUG AND IF IT DOES'NT START CHECK THE VALVE CLEARENCE ON THE INTAKE AND EXHAUST. AFTER THAT AND IT DOES'NT START CHECK THE IGNITION TIMEING.
CUZ IT SHOULD STILL START BUT IT MIGHT SMOKE LIKE CRAZY BUT SHOULD STILL START.
