buy 04/05 spindles, hubs, and upper a-arms

and all that stuff bolts right up? with no problems.

anyone ever try slightly grinding down the stopper for the steering stem? Not sure if it would cause a bind in the ball joints or not i was thinking maybe an 1/8" MAX taken off both sides of the metal stop. I hear good things with what coryatver suggested.

I ground mine 3/16 on each side and now carves like a dream.

Grinding down the steering stop on my 450R was one of the first mods I did in 2004. You just have to do a little at a time so it doesn't over steer.

Besides the options mentioned, get caster adjustable a-arms. This is the real issue. Even the 2005 setup isn't as good as a setup with your caster being set forward...meaning the upper spindle is more forward than the lower.

The 2006-2008 upper a-arms are 1/4" shorter so don't put the 2005 spindles and hubs on there. It messes up the camber.

BTW 2006 spindles, hubs, and brake calipers bolt up great on a 400ex.

Agreed...pay close attention that your inner rim doesn't bind on the a-arm. Make sure your toe-in is properly set before you start grinding away.

If you are brave enough to do the grind be very careful.

There are 3 easy steps to cutting your turning radius in half.

1. Crank the handles bars which ever direction you wanna go.
2.Push Right hand thumb almost tot he limit (or twist your wrist quite a bit) while pulling the clutch in
3.Engage in gear.
4Drop the Clutch and SHEBAM you have now cut your turning radius in half

works sometimes....come to Hatfield though and do that on a sharp turn next to a 200' cliff with only a few feet to spare. :D

Once your buddies take the 2006 spindles and hubs off, they are a great upgrade for a 400ex...even brand new calipers for a 450r aren't that expensive. It really gives the 400ex great braking just like the 450r.

It doesn't change the geometry as far as I can tell from stock 400ex spindles.

Great upgrade for anyone running 300ex frame with 400ex arms too. Imagine 450r brakes on your 300ex on the mx track.

I ground my stops down just enough before the tie rods ends hit my hiper wheel.

Isn't that 4 steps?
