Is it necessary to run a coolant catch bottle on the 250r or can it be removed?

Mines been off for about 8 years. Just run a hose going to the ground.

I was also wondering this same thing. I'd like to leave it off my new build if I can help it. What are the pros and cons of taking it off? Is there anything that I should be concerned with if I remove it and run the line to the ground like mentioned above? Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for kind of hi-jacking your thread paul_700...

The only problem with removing it is if it gets hot enough to push some anti freeze out it will not be in the bottle to be available to be sucked back in the system. I have never understood the reason people want to remove it, its not like you are lightening up the fourwheeler enough to make a difference.

My only issue is that I had to switch to an aftermarket frame and there really isn't a great place to mound it on the subrame where the stock frame holds it. I can make it work I just thought if it can be removed without causing any problems it would save some trouble and risk of it getting broken.

Also has anyone had troubles with the stock bottle losing the elbow coming out of the top? Mine is really sloppy and no longer snaps in snuggly. Anybody have any fixes for this?

Actually mine is the exact same way; sloppy and falls out easily. I was thinking about using some sort of sealant and sealing it on there, as I never really need to open it for any reason.

Just get rid of it. I don't run one on my Arens and I haven't had any problems. I have an Afco rad so my engine never gets hot enough to blow coolant out the overflow hose anyway.

Walsh sells one, but it is the same as a Polaris Predator coolant overflow...

eBay Item #180265016449

It mounts directly to the radiator shrouds with some rubber gromments or spacers. Running in sand dunes - it's a must since my 265 was spewing coolant out all over the place and sand and liquid isn't fun to clean off the pipe and engine, etc.

Let me know if you need a pic.

Dan

my engin builder, Lauren Duncan told me I had to run straight race gas to keep my engin cool enough, I have 310 sleeve on 67.5 bore, think I could run 50/50 with one of those, if so where can I get one an what would cost me, thanks Aceman

I would say your fuel type would depend on your compression. Lauren knows far more than I do.

As for the Afco, I couldn't tell you where to buy one. I see them on Ebay for around 350ish new once in a while. I bought that one in the picture off here used for $275 shipped with 3 jugs of Engine Ice. Dropped coolant temps 30 degrees over a stock radiator with my 310.

I have an afco radiator also, never seen the temp gauge go over 200, most of the time, its around 160. The walsh radiator on my hybrid, never goes over 200, unless, I'm running slow or idling. The 4 stroke heats up alot faster. I have catch cans on everything of mine liquid cooled.
