My 400 whines

I just bought a 2005 400ex. It runs and rides nice but the engine whines. It sounds like a supercharger. I think it might be the timing chain? What would I need to do to fix it? It changes pitch with rpm also.

when mine starts it does that. but after it warms up it stops. idk if this is the same whine as ur talkin bout

I'm not sure if it does or not. I just noticed it the other day. You cant really hear it with a helmet on. My exhaust is pretty loud though. I don't think it stops though.

mine does it, its dont it since like the day i got it i think. it goes away after it warms up. pretty sure its normal. just annoying

its the oem clutch lol alotof them do that, i personally miss the noise, but i got a driven clutch kit and it doesnt do it anymore. but its nothing to wory about. i think it might be a sign of it wearing it out though

One of mine has always done it, other hasn't... Never determined the cause, but is certainly hasn't caused any issues yet. Actually, the one that whines seems to have less engine related vibration, probably unrelated though.

I actually like that sound. Or maybe we are talking about two different sounds. My dad says it sounds like a double roller timing chain.

The sound doesn't bother me. I just thought something was wrong. The exhaust is ALOT louder :)
