I would like to start a thread for all of us that have A.A.D.S.
(Accessory Acquisition Disorder Syndrome) A quote from tri5ron – thanks for putting a true meaning to this disorder that we all have on this forum.
I know everyone sinks a lot of time and money in to their Quads which takes time away from our family’s and yeah lots of money out of our pocket, just to get what we think is the best looking/functioning quad in the world … so take the time and post up your before and after pic’s or (work in progress). If your like me…. a “picture whore” yeah I can admit it comes along with A.A.D.S in the later stages of the illness….. This will be very easy to do just find some of those first pic’s of your quad back when you had money to burn and some pic’s of it now thousands of dollars later and post up. Show off where your hard earned $$$$$ has gone. Yeah we all have posted misc. pic’s of our rides, but I know everyone would like to see them in a progression form. This is a great hobby/sport and we all take pride in our quads so keep the thread rolling.

That quad is dealer expo worthy, you on the other hand, where's the gear! Self accessorization is key. Get jersey, pants, boots, chest protector. And remember, it's not AADS if all the stuff you get for it is 100% neccessary.

So did you mean to have the headlight on that pic or didn't you even know? I've drove around all day before without realizing mine was on on my old quad.

Well i was going for the xc/baja look, so i just added some bolts yeah not beadlock plus wanted to see if anyone would says WHATS THOSE BOLTS, LOL - i think it adds a little bling to the rim, easy add on.

thanks for the props on the quad - about me we are building a track out on my bro's land that day and i had been riding a tractor all day - yep I got all the gear, i am not much in to racing just like to rip it up on the trails and hopefully if it stops raining we can get the track done its going to be about 30 acres, next time we go out i suit up would make for a better pic, gear is another thing i spend to much money - but yes the gear is 100% neccessary LOL

thanks - yeah havent had time to get it reallly dirty yet, but that going to change lol, the graphics didnt hold up very well they keep releasing from the tank, the adhesive seem to be a low tac, just removed them for now - might get another set ? the yoshi is awesome - i will post up a sound clip soon.

Actually its a 2001 300EX with 2002 400EX Rear Fenders and 1994 300EX Fronts and a Maier Carbon Fiber 250R Hood lol.
I kinda like the way the rims are now lol. I plan on selling the rear and buying smaller ones lol.

Once the tires on all 4 are going more bald i will put up the rear rims for sale because they are 10 inch rims i want 8s or 9s. But the rear tires are 18s and the fronts are 20s.

Thanks. Laz redone my shocks for me, I had a Derisi shock before that, but it was setup for a 220lb(I weight 170) rider so I can't really say how much better the GT Thunder stuff is. It rides pretty good though, as soon as I get some extra cash im going to have him put the high flow piston in it.

I like them a lot! Much better then my Elka/Houser setup I posted above as well. I think the rear linkage is the biggest difference. The ARS-FX linkage is amazing. I'd buy the setup again for sure.

As for the rims, thanks. Honestly I prefer the Hiper's over the Douglas though.

The show build had a lot more detail then any pictures can show. One of the nicest 450's I have ever seen. Cost I have no idea. I would say 15-20 with price of the 450.

thanks man, yeah i'm trying to save for a car but I always find something I want or need lol. Next on my list is Protaper S.E. ATV high and possibly the bar mount that gives you 3/4" rise. Me being tall I have to hunch with the stock bars lol. I have some nice plans for my quad and I love seeing it all come together slowly but surely.

you will be happy with that set up - Protaper S.E. ATV high w/ riser. thats what i am running but have a +1 stem i am 5'10 and it gives me a lot more leverage in the corners and the ride height on the bars is pretty level. heres a pic of me trying to keep the front end down. lol

do you have the +1 stem with the 3/4" riser and ATV high bend? Or the +1 stem with the ATV high? The only thing i'm worried about know is cable length. My bars will be 1.5" higher. I think i'm going to cut out a piece of wood thats 1.5" high and drill holes so it will fit under the mounts so i can see if my cables will fit or not, btw your quad looks great

just the +1 stem and atv high bars and yeah the front brake cable was tight had to remount & re-bend my front brake line - but its fine - you will be close not a bad idea to mock it up before buying everything

your rears are 19's. they are the mxr4's.

My rear rims are 10's though. and I think they're 18's dont quite remember. Yes, they are MXR4's though. I just plan on selling my rear rims when the tires are bald. I'll sell the rims and go down to either 8's or 9's not quite sure yet. Either way I will probably buy MXR6's or Kenda Klaw's when these tires are done.

I ride the national curcuit but for practice I go to Area 51 which sucks. I also go to Mapleshade MX which is in PA about 1.5 hrs from us. Then I just ride the atomic track too.

What was the name of the guy you met?

The flexx bars are just normal ones so maybe its just a weird angle. And I like my levers down and not straight out. Its a lot more comfortable for me.

Elka Triple rate front shocks, GT Thunder rear shock rebuild with XC GT link, Holeshot 20" rear tires 9" rims and 21" front, Houser +2 A-arms, suspension set up for XC

yeah the elka's are a little soft for my type of riding, i have them cranked down almost mid way - i think i am going to get them re-Valved to around 200 lbs - beside that it rides out pretty good. :)

How do you like those Tusk nerf bars? I want to get 'em for my 400ex, the only thing thats holdin me back is the way they mount, instead of having the bar that goes all the way through the frame in front of the motor, they just bolt to the motor mount right? Does it seem pretty solid? Nice 450's btw, both of them!

agree about the mount - no cross bar - but they are holding up well i have had 1 bracket mount break but welded it back, for the cost they are good nerfs - was going to go with pro armor, but my buddys cracked on both sides were weld meets the kick plate, so i guess all brands are not indestructible.

yea mounts to the motor mount - on the cross brace i was going to make my own, real easy get a 1" thick piece of solid steel and insert it into the tubing, like AC nerfs does with theres, but its not steel. just a thought.

There are many differences. The feel of both machines are completely different. The Honda is more of a pound nails with your fist type of thumper. It feels tough and alot more solid then the Yamaha. The YFZ has more of a 2 stroke feel to it. It just flat out freaking rips but it feels more fragile then the Honda. The super high rpm's comes on quick and the throttle response is perfectly crisp. Ive owned yfz's, raptor 700's, and 450r's, but this YFZ 450r is single handedly the best handling quad ive ever ridden. The stock shocks are plush and the front end sticks to the ground when shooting hills. The Honda feels like it tops out at a higher mph and I even dropped a tooth on the front sprocket. Honda definetely has more torque and useable power but the fuel injection on this new YFZ is pretty nice, makes idle wheelies easy. The Honda feels like you could beat the piss out of it, and it will always get up wanting more. If there is anything else ya want to know about comparing these two lemme know.

I'm curious to see how the YFZR goes over this year in the GNCC. It may feel more fragile but I bet the frame holds up better then the Honda. Also I would think the power delivery could be changed with some cams or headwork.

It starts great. Cranks over alot harder then the Honda, and fires right up Sometimes during the winter I have to point a salamander on the Honda for a bit to get it to start easier. I think we know that all Honda's are cold blooded though.

In my unbiased opinion, if I had to choose between these 3 i would stick with the YFZ450r. Even though its 50 in wide I have had no problem getting thru the trails. The ride is twice as plush as the other two. This thing is an awesome hill shooter to.

Now this is some very good information, from someone that has owned both...... the honda and yam is the top 2 sport quads. just my opinion. thanks for the info. :)

Its hard to explain what i meant by being fragile. I guess because the seat height on the Honda feels so much more taller and bulkier. The Honda feels solid as a rock and actually like you have a machine between your legs, I dont know how to explain it, just a feeling. The YFZr has more of a dirt bike feel (not saying that its a bad feel.) The ridiculously high rev's on the YFZr make it feel more fragile as well (not to say that higher rev's are bad either.) If you sit on both of them simultaneously you would know what im talking about i think.

The power on the YFZr is great. It rev's out high and feels snappy. It just plain rips, where the Honda has more of a raw american muscle car type of feel, which i love by the way.

i have been thinking about racin for a while, went to a race, liked it, i like beeing low and slidin sideways:D , still got alot of work to do, stuff to buy,(better boots than 80$ ones, then higher bars and stem, other bar stuff, stabilizer, waiting on a swaybar, all new gear, and last but not least houser aarms, next winter when i have enough money, gonna do a complete rebuild, pc, bearings, CLEANING, etc. etc.

now that sounds like some good oh fun. we have some guys around here that do some flat tracking.. their quads are set up with tons of aftermarket goodies and wow so low, they race on dirt and asphalt. good to here your trying something new, its got me thinking about it.... man i think it would be a blast, good luck on your conversion post up some pics once and a while - show us your progress

if you do start flat trackin put on some stock lenght front shocks, and buy a rear lowering kit:)

not sure i know what ya mean - they are not directional tires so it does not matter which way they are rotating ? they are XCR holeshot tires...

wow.... great eye man, never seen that. checked online at some sites and mine are running the wrong way, bought them new from a local dealer and they were already mounted...but i never thought about it....thanks for the input. taking them down this weekend to get them remounted. :)

No problem mak400ex and you dont have to re-mount em,all you gota do is take the both front wheels off and just switch em to the other side,so you dnt gota take the tires off ;)
