Since the days are now too hot to ride, we decided to go take a spin on the desert in the eveing and ride until dark.

I have been wanting to try some things on my camera I havent got to before, so today seemed perfect time to do it.

After returning from the trails,I shot some pit side photos of Kelsey and Brandon.
This riding area is always a PITA in the summer for dust, but all in all we had a really good day just relaxing and getting a little seat time in.
Were def. going back for more -preferred the night riding over getting up early ! :p :D lol

Brandon practiced alot on shaving berms, Kelsey worked on hers starts alot today and getting used to her Flexx Bars.
Shes had one wrist injury this year so we thought they might help -shes already really liking the bars alot. :)

She tweeked it pretty good once this year and once last year... I thought she broke it this last time. Shes going out to race this wk end locally at a MX/SX mixed course so thats when I think she will really get to test them out and see how well they really do work.

I broke my wrist really bad last September and I don't get pain in it at all after riding for 2 days straight thanks to the bars. I would just put a different elastomer color on than the blue because hitting jumps like that would make them "bottom out" a lot easier. Try the yellow or red and see how she likes them.

Check what batteries you have in your flash, depending what kind you've got it can dramatically affect your recycle time.

I use Energizer and Power2000 rechargeables.
In the winter, i used to use the Lithiums, until it about burned up my flash.:scary:

I might have got an old batch of batteries, Im going to buy another box and also buy an external battery pack. I think I had the settings all about right,so Ill just have to practice more and work with the shutter speeds more.
The more Im shooting with flash ,the more I want to use it all the time!
I am putting strobes on my wish list for my Bday this year.:D

if your shooting the flash on full power you will have longer recycle times, and if you fire it to often you will melt the unit

Thats what Harlen was telling me today..
I was shooting at a +0 to 1/3 .
Thelithiums would get REALLY bad. I used them in the winter for FT racing becasue the temps get very cold and I would go threw MUCHO batteries. So I quit using them.
How do photographers shoot night events with so many riders?
When the batteries feel on the warmer side that when Ive been turning her off for abit .

i switch mine out often, but i have 5 or 6 sb800's with battery packs. not many that are really interested in good shots are worrying about shooting rapidly at night. the slightest bit of haze, smoke or dust ruins so many of the shots etc

lol i mainly use on camera flash during the day to get the rider sattention, anyone telling you its for fill flash when they are 45 feet from a rider needs more edumacation:p

I wish I had more than one ! Thats would help for sure lol
You know... Im not sure if its good or bad but I think I have started another Camera addict in the house ....

Kelsey is taking interest now .:p
Shes nuts if she thinks she hording in! :blah:
lol

The smoke.. I had a tough time with that the last time I shot the MX .
Indoors is even worse. :scary:
I dunno how all the guys get those sick SX shots in the mags.

Pappy

me either. ive never covered an indoor event, but i suspect that being on the floor level has advantages and they get bad shots just like the rest of us. heck thats why i avoid the big indoor around here in february, it is nuts. poor lighting, tons of work for little to no pay and the images are tough to get (and damn dangerous)

good to hear kelsey is into it, cody knows alot now, especially when we break out the strobes and go to work. hand signals is usually all we need when he is across the course etc:p
