just picked up my o4 yfz450

so i just sold my completely modded 440ex so i can buy a 450. well today i got a 04 yfz 450. its completely stock. now i want to build it like i did the 440. what should i do to the motor? what kind of exhaust would you say? i know more about hondas but im back into yamahas again. so please name what i should do and where i can find it. thank you very much for your time.

If you dont have all the cash to buy a slip on/full exhaust.You can take the baffle out, Lid off, Rejet it. If you now how to do the free cam mod that helps too and its free. The things I posted will make a big differants. But a pipe will help a little more then the baffle out. If its stock it probally have the bog..I would get a Boyosen acc pump cover to get rid of the bog.Get a air fuel screw for you dont have to take the carb off to adjust it.

If you get a piston I would go with CP or wicket. I not sure what big bore kits to get becuz people say after what I posted that the YFZ450 will get the job done.I would try and find a 06 crank rod to make it a true 450. Get the oil mod done. I have an 06 without the oil mod and mine runs great and I ride/race mine all the time..

Pipe I have a DR.D exhaust and I like it alot It sounds good and its not that loud but its loud enought that people can hear me coming from ways away.

There is a video on youtube type in cam mod on yfz450.You can probally search this site like type in Cam Mod. I'll try to find something for you.The oil mod oils your motor better for you dont have to worry about your motor not getting enought oil..

It wasnt on my bike but sounds good and he has a quick bike so definately did something!! I dont like exhuast that big anymore, i'm sticking with shortys for now on!! like the TC i posted above, the sparks shorty, and short can Nmotion....there lghter and way less restriction must = more power !!!

also i rode my quad today and is it normal to get really hot fast? if so should i get engine ice and cv4 hoses? possibly a new water pump with different propeller? thanks for all the help. also i have never jetted a quad cuz i was never taught how to. if i get a k&n air filter, and exhaust and a jet kit how would i jet it? thanks

They like to get hot pretty quick. Even at idle the pipe will turn red hot at night. Today I rode my friends 400ex and it doesn't get nearly as hot as my yfz does which surprised me. Anyways its pretty normal for them to get hot as long as its not extreme. Maybe its just feels hot because the way the pipe comes around right next to your leg.:ermm:

I run amsoil full synthetic and honda style engine coolant. You should be fine without engine ice and just make sure you do normal maintenance .

Its normal for the YFZ's to get hot. But if its getting extreme hot that means its running to lean. Do you like the YFZ so far I went from a warrior to a YFZ and I like mine to death. I dont run engine ice My head pipe dont get red it gets orange after I did the mods and rejetted right. The oil I use is motol 4. syn blend. 10w-40.

nah, this is my buddys....it sounded good and opened his yfz alot. If you have a K&N and the TC and jet it right, youd get a reall good power gain.

My yfz ran hott so i got a modquad impeller, CV4 hoses, and i run engine ice and i dont have that problem anymore......

run synthetic oil for sure, i just did the free cam mod to mine it made a good improvement in midrange and top end.
if you go into the "how to" forum...on the second page there is a post titled yfz cam mod video. it was helpful you can f.f. through a lot but it tells you everything you need to know.

just dont screw it up you can bend the valves, all you really have to do is move the exhaust cam back 1 tooth to retard the exhaust 3 degrees. as far as jetting i was never really taught..basically you want your plug to look tan.. like coffee with creamer, if it is lighter than this you need more fuel as it is lean. if it is dark it is rich and has too much fuel. nothing wrong with running it a little rich the plug can be black...as long as it's not wet you should be good. :)

no idc about noise. and thanks for all your help. i just order a 64oz bottle of engine ice, cv4 hoses and a inline cooler. now will this make it run cooler and how do i put on the inline cooler. thanks
