I was just wondering what the best 450 is for the trails. I'm not looking for sheer power here but overall comfort and good suspension. I ride alot in the woods and need something that will handle & steer well too. I like the KFX450 so far but need some more opinions ok?. Thanks

As much of a yamaha guy as I am, I actually like the kfx450 a lot. Other than the seat feeling like a 2x4 I like the ergonomics and feel.

YFZ450 is my second choice though:D

Ugh Yamaha is always your first or second choice.... we know already why even mention it Eric?! LOL. >.<

I personally like the KFX450 alot very nice bike. I would say an 04/05 450R comes in a nice second with a lower front sprocket and maybe a pipe. If not lots of clutching =].

the kfx is a good woods machine because of the reverse, also if you can afford one, maybe a ktm xc. the honda does good in the trails, but it doesnt have reverse, but if you know how to ride reverse isnt needed. just cut a nut and your turned around. test ride them all and see what you think of em.

youre really asking best TRAIL 450 right?, kfx hands down if your wanting to jump off the trails right onto fireroads and dragrace your buddys on their whatever, youll want some gearing changes (sprockets) and for a second choice im gonna say either a R or ds but im gonna lean for the R for trails because i had one and it was a fine trail machine, there were just some days when it would be hot as he11 and the kicker would be a bit** to start.....JMO

lmao. Usually yamaha is my first choice, but believe it or not, I kinda like the kfx more than the yfz.

When i turn 16 and my banshee is running, the fo hundy is goin up for sale and im getting a kfx450 or yfz450. Hopefully the kfx.

stock 2006+ 450r has terrible steering. If you are planning for a new 450r in the woods, you better plan on getting some caster adjustable a-arms.

I have a 2006 and a 2008 and speak the truth. I just switched the 2008 to 2005 spindles and hubs today. It gives more camber because the stock a-arm on the 2006+ is 1/4 shorter than 2005. Quad turns a little better but still like crap.

What I don't know yet is if 2005 upper a-arms give it better caster for tighter turning. I already have a full set of Houser sli-cast +1 a-arms on order for it. Just waiting for Houser to get them into production.

definitly something with reverse if you're running trails. It beats pushing a quad backwards if you have to turn around, especially in tight spots where you can't just spin around. You could always buy a bike though and not have to worry about that lol. That's one thing I don't miss in the woods is pushing a quad without reverse.

Ride that in the woods! :p

haha really though if you're looking for a good woods quad, I was rather impressed with the new raptor 700's. Nice low end power. Very smooth and easy to ride in the trails, especially tight ones. Most of all, it's comfortable.

while i bet theres nothing really wrong with the machine itself, the price is just to crazy (and ktm upping them $2000 for 09 doesnt help either) if i spend that much on a (as in one) quad id be hesitant about even getting it muddy, it would be in the back of the truck 24/7 with a locking plexiglass box around it......like the popemobile :D

I'd go with a KTM. You can get 08's cheaper now. With a couple little tweaks its a great trail quad

I read a review that said 450r had more low and mid range power, which is what we want for trails.

Do others agree with that? I am also suck with the question, yfz450 vs 450r

I had an 04 450R but didn't like it for trail riding that much. The gear ratios weren't right for riding in tight trails. So far, I think the KTM is much better. I'm racing a harescrambles this weekend so I'll find out how it works.
