Well, yesterday when i was riding i noticed white smoke coming from my exhaust then i noticed i had oil leaking from my head. I could probaly get by with just a new head gasket, but I want to do a total rebuild. I've seen kits on ebay that have a piston, rings and gaskets for about 100 dolars, i want to go to a 416 with 11:1 compression. If anyone could tell me what all i need or should get please tell me what it is and the price.

responses appreciated

You need
A 416 piston and rings kit, found on eBay
New valve seals, Bike bandit
Cometic top end gasket set, Rockymountain
At a machine shop you need
the cylinder bored to 87mm and honed
and a valve job, they will put in the seals.
About $100 in machine work.

yeah while you have it apart you should get the valves checked to make sure they are seating properly. I know you didnt metion it but a stage 2 cam would help out that 11:1 nicely.

you dont NEED to get new valve seals. its more of a how old is your quad and has it smoked before. mine was an 01 with oem everything not replaced and i did a 440kit and didnnt touchthe valve train. it was fine.

he does need valve seals if he gets his valves seated, which 99% of 400ex's need because they run a little hotter.

it would be the smart thing to do and there cheap enough and take 2 seconds to do once the springs are off. 6.49 for new ones. 24 for all new. cant go wrong and just to be safe. http://www.motosport.com/offroad/oem.php?make=HONDA&type=ATV&model=TRX400EX&year=2001&groupId=8381
