would an 86 trx250r be wider with +3 and stock 450r rims? or
+3 with 4/1 rims?

It will be wider with stock 450R rims....too wide. The 450R front rims are a 3/2 offset. With a +3 a-arm setup on a stock width frame, you'll want 4/1 wheels.

With roll design +3's and 4/1 rims I am at just about 50". It is almost too wide. It Can be a pain to get down some trails with that width.
