alright considering its a 1999 - 2004 unless he changed the plastics and the gearing and tires are stock sizes you should top out around 72 pushing it.

thank you that was rly helpful do you know what i could do to it if i wanted to drag

well with more RPM or gearing to make the top speed higher it would be wise to upgrade the motor more. Will it be strictly drag raced?

also i was reading the things you have put on your quad how do you start your quad without a choke

well i dont know a whole lot about making a drag quad or a flat track racer and what needs to be done to the 400ex engine wise to make it ready for that type of stuff. I think in flat track racing you want to stay in mid to high RPM but I havent raced it so I dont know. Do you have a budget?

the choke is not neccesary on any quad really. When you take it off you get a small power gain and some throttle response. You also install a 42 pilot jet so you dont need the choke in colder weather. Just pump the gas a few times and start it

how much do those cost btw thnk you for helping me with all this

alright well a 3 thousand dollar budget is pretty good. How serious are you with flat track racing? I would get a nice set of shocks and a-arms to start off. Flat track racing and drag racing ATV's are normally lowered a pretty good amount and they have street type tires like Hoosier or American Racer. Some flat track racing has knobbies but it seems like a much smaller class. I would really start with suspension and handling. You already have a pipe and air filter which is pretty good. You should check your jetting and the choke being removed is free, the only thing is the pilot jet which isnt much they are normally around $6 or something. If you are flat track racing read the specifications for the type and class you will be running in. They should have a requirement list which should help you on on what you need and what your resrtictions are.

Well, that's a pretty good package to start with as far as money goes.

First your gonna want to buy some nice TT tires. Then, look into a sway bar. It keeps the quad flat around the turns and most pro's use them. Then you can buy a lowering kit. It basically just makes your shock mounts lower on the a-arm's and swingarm to drop it down.
If your worried about more width, in TT you can get away with 2.5" wheel spacers. As long as there arent any big jumps or anything.

As far as engine. Idk about your local classes, but out by me the 400's have to race with the 450's. Some of these 450's are built, and even an awesome rider on a piped ex won't be able to hang with them. Like I said, your classes may be different.

Some of my favorite kits, are either a 460 stroker or GT Thunder 452 stroker.

The 460 is a 440 big bore with I believe a +4mm stroke. Then to make use of that, a Hotcam's stage 3, fcr carb, CRF cam chain, porting, and high compression would make that 400 RUN. If you can run race gas, I would recomend compression along the lines of 12.5:1

You said you just want to do TT, so why not go all out with it?:p lol

With a 16 sprocket in the front and a 36 sprocket in the back with a big gun rev limiter i hit 75 on the local drag track. Stock rims with road tires. I may be able to get some more out of it, i weigh 145 lbs and the guys there told me i probably could if i had a longer stretch. My buddy did the same thing on his KFX, he also hit 75 but has no pipe although im a beleiver that pipes only help acceleration, not top speed. Thats for gearing and rev boxes.

You can go 60-65.
