Hey guys I am fairly new to the ATV scene I just picked up a 99 400ex yesterday and need to find some out some info on some good upgrades for the bike. Really all I know about the bike is that it has a stage one hot cam, K&N filter and aftermarket exhaust(not sure what kind right off hand). What are some good upgrades for the bike. Also the oil lines that plug into the clutch cover one bolt hole is stripped out (I found this out after I got the bike home). Is it possible to just go and grab a 1/4 inch longer bolt to hopefully grab some more threads, or does the bolt nbeed to be the same length?

Post a pic of the exhaust and I can identify it for you.

As far as other mods, a high compression piston will help the cam and together they make a great combo.

You can also look into a sparks timing key ($20) its supposed to be awesome.

The exhaust that is one the bike is the FMF Mega Max II

Can someone tell me the signs of a blown head gasket? I have oil leaking around the head gasket and down onto the exhaust, just curious if this could be the cause.

Looks like you got ripped off. Is it a 440?

I am thinking that the motor is stock, I cant remember what he told me. I think you are correct about getting ripped off but oh well. I enjoy working in these things and it gives me something to do. I have just never really torn down a 4 stroke and not real sure what symptoms cause what problems. I guess that is why I am here, for the tips and advice.
