Im looking to buy a nice 1992 lt250r, but i wanted to do some research on it first. It has a .40 bore and a FMF pipe/silencer. I had a 86 trx250r with similar mods and wanted to know how the handling/power would compare. I currently ride a built Z400 and I just want to go back to the 2 stroke scene. Thanks in advance.

I have a 1992 LT250R. Been very happy with it. Had to do some repairs over the years, but mostly due to wrecks... :o Bored .040 over is fine, that is what mine is. Max overbore on the LT is .080. The mechanical seal in the water pump is a common problem. Costs about $30 to replace seals, and still readily available. Check the swingarm for cracks, check the lower part of the frame, just behind the footpegs. First thing you would wanna do is service/replace all bearings. Many people never grease them, makes a nightmare for future owners. Handling... I was always happy with mine, even more so after a +4 RPM axle, +2 a-arms, and Works Pro-Series shocks. Oh, the chain adjustment sucks on the LT, but as a Z400 owner, you know about that. I was very happy to replace it with and LSR swinger! Power, when stock it was decent. After some motor work, VERY happy with it. Only rode a TRX250R couple times. I liked the power-valved motor on the Zuk better. The 250R handles better over jumps, but the LT250 handles as well, if not better in turns. So to finish this long book... :blah: Look the LT over good. If in good shape, and good price, get it! I don't think you'd regret it.

well...i ended up with a different LT250r. its a absolutely sick bike. everything on it is brand new. Here is what it has on it. Ill post some pics up tommorow. It was a back up race bike that was only used once. You can tell it was never ran just due to how clean everything is. Here are the specs....im sure im forgetting stuff. he had 16000 in recipts for the bike. also gave me an extra CT racing cylinder with a fresh bottom end and cases, a couple extra new pistons for the motor in the bike and some extra tires. Im extatic with the bike...it blows my Z i had out of the water in handling and performance.
