can you adjust the timing chain on a 400ex? I was told you could but i don't know.

Not really.

You can adjust the camshaft timing by indexing the cam sprocket onto the chain in a different position. But that's not really adjusting the cam chain as much as the cam.

Then there's the cam chain tensioner. It's a device that puts the proper tension on the cam chain. It is "automatic". If it's installed and working properly, it automatically adjusts the cam chain to the proper tension. It can't be manually adjusted.

There are aftermarket cam chain tensioners that can be manually adjusted. Not stock though.

It should be self adjusting. There is a spring loaded tensioner on the right rear of the cylinder.

it kinda works like a zip tie. it clicks out adn wont retract unless you do it. you take off screw in the back of it. and get a tiny regular screwdriver and you can tighten itor loosen it. it might be maxed out though for a streched chain. youll know if its maxed or not.
