Does anyone know how to clean the stock KFX air filter? I dont have money to buy an aftermarket filter right now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

if you can get some maxima or no-toil air filter cleaner. you can just throw the filter in your washer.

putting it in the washer wont tear it up? all i have is K&N air filter cleaner from my 400ex

idk about using the k+n stuff but i know that you can use kerosene to clean the stock filter.

go buy some superclean/simple green. soak it let it sit somewhere for a few mins then wash off.

Use No-Toil cleaner to clean it for the first time. Mine came stock oiled with Kawi-Chem biodegradable oil which is just relabled No-Toil. After that feel free to use what you want but No-Toil cleaner/oil is the sh*z.

i just put it in a zip lock bag with gas/kerosene/starter fluid and squish it around for a few minutes then spray it down with the waterhose, then wait till it dries and pout this uni stuff i got on it but ill use any filter oil i have at the time..... im leaning toward getting a uni filter sooner or later...its cheaper and essentially the same thing as k&n

Get Mineral Spirits ( paint thinner) soak the filter in the mineral spirits for as long as you want the longer the better. Go buy some air filter oil and oil it up then let it dry and get tacky and sticky. Re-Install it on the quad and you will be good to go.

i wasnt callin the k&n junk or anything ive had one on an ex at one time and the only thing i didnt like about it was that theyre kinda bulky and the cleanup, im just sayin id rather have a uni because theyre easier to clean and ive read many times around here that airflow on both of em is pretty much the same.....

yea airflow is pretty much the same but i dont think K&N's filter nearly as well as Foam.. esp after a few cleanings

There is nothing wrong with K+N. Aslong as you keep it clean, oiled and use an outerwear your filtering just as good as a foam. I've ran K+N in every bike i own and i have never had a problem with rings going bad or cylinder getting scratched. I just rebuilt my kfx400 which is an 05 and had a k+n since new and been raced hard since 05 and the cylinder is still good as new no scratches and the valves look as good as new(except for the one that bent). I run one in my 450 and wouldn't hesitate to put one in any other bike i ever get.

I just use dawn dish washing detergent and warm water to clean the filter (works perfectly), then let it dry and I use the PJ1 filter oil.

umm, unless I'm mistaken...K&N filters are a 3 layer cotton gause element, not paper junk. I run em' on my Harley, in my cars, and in my truck and the last time I checked they were not paper.
