ok starting with an 06 YFZ 450 stock powertrain except for hmf slip on, i am looking to go with a hotcams intake cam and want to know the correct way to retard the stock exhaust cam....

also looking at a K&N air filter and x-stream lid however is there really a need for the lid?.... I dont want to pull the stock lid because there is always mud on top of it when i take the seat off:ermm: ...dont want mud water on the air filter:ermm:

any help/advice on any of this would be greatly appreciated :)

ok i'm kinda new to the 4 strokes someone correct me if i'm wrong...stock compression on the yfz quad is 11 to 1 on the dirtbike motor it's 13 to 1...by doing the "cam mod"
and retarding the exhaust cam 3 degrees...leaving the exhaust valves closed that little bit longer... you are raising the compression to 13 to 1 right?
I miss my 2 stroke...someone help me

someone correct me if i'm wrong....also i was told 12 to 1 is the upper limit for pump fuel any higher means race gas....

help!! :)

who ever told you that is wrong. 12.1 you must have race gas and a stock 450 dirtbike is not 13.1 its 11.1 or something not sure but its below 12. bc stock they run on pump gas

Thanks for the help i'm gonna go ahead and do it I'm about ready to check the valves anyways. I am still not sure if retarding the exhaust cam 3 degrees will raise the compression in the first place..enough people have done it so.... If it pings a little or gets hot i'll just mix some better fuel with 93.
