voltage regulator?? maybe you need a bigger regulator. I was told by ricky stator when I ordered my 200w stator, that they suggest using their " " regulator, as the stock one can't handle more than stock wattage(I think 100w).

There are several possibilities.

What kind of light bulbs are you using? Cheap bulbs will burn out easier, and will also fail easier due to vibration.

The voltage regulator is slightly different on the 86, it regulates at 15VAC (87-89 regulate at 12VAC). With the slightly higher voltage, some bulbs will blow much easier.

there is a voltage regulator on it it is an 87 bike, the bulbs are chead like 30.00 from walmart. am I risking doing damage by running 50 watt bulbs, also if one went out like it did and only one was working would it be way to much power for the one and pop it
