Has anyone had to replace the rear carrier bearings? I ride a lot of mud etc. and the bearings are shot. Why can't I install a grease fitting to help the life of these bearings?

you can and it has been done due a search or PM some of the GNCC racer.

When you pull the rear end down to change your carrier bearings, leave the inner plastic retainer that rides against the bearings out and drill two holes in the carrier housing, one at the front to be plugged with a rubber stopper and another in the rear where you will install a zerk fitting. After the assy is complete, fill the carrier housing full of a good synthetic, waterproof grease until it comes out the front hole ensuring the carrier housing is full. Put the stopper in and give it one pump to put it under light pressure. I hit mine with grease every time I wash it. I give full credit to John Gallagher for another 'gallagherizing' invention as he calls it. Haven't had a problem with mine since. Thanks John!

How much play should there be with those bearings or any at all?

A little bit of play in the rear end is normal according to my tech friend from Polaris. I has to have a slight amount of give he said. one thing did freak me out though, after my 1st full year of GNCC's and some local XC and MX races, when I pulled the rear end down, I actually had some bearings missing. There was no difference in play in the rear end. so, you might want to change them out after the amount of racing I did on them or sooner. do what John told me to do with the housing when it is tore down. It can't hurt for sure. I haven't pulled mine down but he said that after a full series of the GNCC's and local xc races on his, they looked fine doing what he said to the housing. He changed them out anyway just because it was pulled down and he said that they looked fine. Food for thought...

I actually had mud in mine. I am dealing with it right now and was told by another ex polaris racer about putting zirc fittings in. I have only been racing since april on this quad and it was new in November. here are the bearings when I pulled them apart today.

i think you will see the benefits by doing what I and John have done. It will keep the mud and water out for sure plus extend the life of the carrier bearings. Just my opinion...

can someone please post the part numbers and quantity needed to replace the bearings in the carrier?

I'm hoping I can find the parts I need at O'rylies and get the bearings swapped this weekend.

Thanks in advance.
